💪RHOMBOIDS & POSTURE🚶 • It comes to no surprise to many of you that our postures are becoming increasingly worse as a consequence of prolonged sitting and slouching over our computers and phones. Hyperkyphosis is an excessive curvature of the thoracic spine and tends to worsen as we age. So it is imperative to work on our posture through lengthening and strengthening of specific muscles that will keep us upright. • One of the important muscles to strengthen are the rhomboids, which are two upper back muscles that help us retract (bring together) our scapulas. Our slouched positions tend to weaken the rhomboids over time, which is why we should look for ways in the gym to fire them up again and remind them of what their role is! • Here I share one of my favorite exercises: the bodyweight row using rings (though it can be done with a bar or with a TRX as well). The important thing here is to always keep your scapulas retracted and feel those rhomboids working (as well as many other muscles that are recruited in this exercise). • Swipe left to check out a stretch you can use if your rhomboids are feeling too tight after working them out: eagle arms! Be sure to repeat on both sides: very likely one will be much easier than the other, this is totally normal and means you should give a little extra care to your less mobile side. • Remember, sit up and keep those shoulders back (but not up).
