How many press up variations can you spot? 👁🤷🏼‍♂️ First one to guess wins 😄 On a serious note though, press ups is a classic chest builder and overall fundamental, whole-body exercise. - I feel like it’s pretty underused too; before you’d see people like Arnold and other old school bodybuilders pump out 50 press ups easily and include press ups in their routine. Now that’s not so common. - If you can’t do 20 clean push ups,then there’s no point boasting about your new bench press PB. Learn the basics first, get good at them and then move on to the other exercises. - Building a solid foundation is so important to making safe and progressive gains over a long period of time. #basicsfirst Wenn ich mich so in der Sportwelt umschaue fällt immer wieder auf auf, dass fortgeschrittene Übungen und Methoden viel zu früh zum Einsatz kommen. Während schwere Kniebeugen mit Ketten und rumschreien vielleicht spektakulär auf Instagram und Co aussehen sind viele Athleten zu diesem Zeitpunkt gar nicht in der Lage diese korrekt und kontrolliert auszuführen. Das Gleiche trifft (gerade im Jugendbereich) neben Krafttraining auf Sprung- und Sprintformen zu, welche völlig undosiert und viel zu früh eingesetzt werden. Das Resultat sind regelmäßig keine athletischere, sondern verletzte Spieler. Dementsprechend wäre es oftmals sinnvoller ein oder zwei Schritte zurück zu machen. Das bedeutet grundlegende Bewegungsmuster zu erlernen, Kompensationsmuster herauszuarbeiten, beweglicher und progressiv stärker zu werden usw. This post is not about handstands! - It is about building a solid foundation in the basics before moving on to the flash stuff. Too often i see people wasting their time trying to achieve a skill far above a level they are capable of because they haven’t put the time in working on the levels below. I’ve been guilty of this in the past, so I know 😉 - If you have put the time in working the basic progressions of a certain skill you can expect to maintain a certain level of ability even with time away from that skill. I haven’t been able to perform a handstand with hands on the floor (I have been on parallettes) for 9 months. Today is was like ‘riding a bike’ as they say. The proof is there to see. - I hope this helps a little if you are working on a skill and getting frustrated that it’s not coming quick enough. INTRODUCTION - This is basically you breaking the ice (who you are and what you are doing) 2. Training around a wrist injury at the minute but legs are feeling stronger than ever. 155kg×5 and 150kg×5 back squats for 2 PB sets of 5 and 10kg better than when I tested it last 5weeks ago. For fat loss the things you should focus on are pretty SIMPLE and largely free . Focus on these almost exclusively 😀👍 . It might not be EASY to follow these things because of your current habits, behaviours and limiting beliefs . But make no mistake following these basics consistently will get you there👏 . ◾calorie deficit, eating less than your daily calorie needs ◾sufficient protein, 1.5 grams per kg of body weight is a reasonable goal ◾eating plenty of veggies ◾staying well hydrated, drink plenty of zero calorie fluids (water, diet drinks) ◾make small changes and stick to them before adding in something else ◾be consistent and patient . This works for almost everyone over time! As long as they apply the principles consistently and are patient 👏 . when should I eat my meals, should I stop eating after 6pm 👨 . what about fit tea?👩 . should I cut cards? 👱 . STOP! ✋ . Dont start looking for the last 5% when you havent sorted the basics🤔 . Unless you are preparing for a physique competition then the things on the right are not worth thinking about. My new client here has many mechanical and techincal flaws that when correct he will play better. DAY 147 - mostly got over myself on Sunday and spent the day looking for magic at the WB Harry Potter studio . Pictured is butterbeer ice-cream 🍦 . Which the kids shared, although I did try some 😀👊 . Now I love Harry Potter, the films and the books Ive read, my kids love it too. Its magical and its quite astonishing how much work went into making those films . This butterbeer ice-cream not so much . What? Well...its just ice-cream with caramel sauce! . Amongst the wonder, the surprising and the extraordinary this ice-cream was quite ordinary. Or rather it wasnt surprising . It lit up the taste buds, classic mix of fats and sugary delight . Sometimes magic isnt required to get the job done, sometimes the old ways work and often we forget this . Its tempting to look for the new, the sparkling and glimmering option BUT often you just need the dusty old . One of the biggest mistakes I see in nutrition is just a massive over complication of principles, or trying to run before you can walk. Consistently doing the basics will return greater results than a so-so diet mixed with a few supplements. Focus on sleep - 7-9 hours a night Drink plenty of water Consistent, regular protein feeds throughout the day. At least 3 servings of vegetables a day plus some fruit. Plan ahead with your meals, winging it won’t work. These are just some of the basics. Are you an endurance athlete? Or do you just enjoy endurance work as a recreational sport? Either way, we all know that lots of endurance athletes struggle with chronic pain. This is wholly avoidable and the injury risk of lots of endurance volume can be mitigated with the building of a solid foundation to support these activities. Take a runner for example. Essentially your sport is lots and lots of small jumps, repeatedly. Otherwise known as plyometrics. To absorb that loading through the joints, and to create that force for sustained periods without losing efficient movement, we need to be STRONG. Not strong like Eddie Hall. But resilient in our connective tissues and with a deep foundation of muscular endurance. We need to be balanced in this! Any left to right imbalance will lead to improper loading and increased risk of injury and compensatory movement patterns. We can build the foundation we need here, through gym work. Single limb resistance training in particular, is a GREAT way for runners and other endurance athletes to perform better and reduce the risk of injury greatly. Done correctly, this will not hinder your performance - it should improve it.
