So this will probably be extremely hard to to do because to honest I absolutely love training martial arts and just doing intense workouts in general (mabye a little to much like Rock Lee). But recently I have been experiencing some signs of overtraining. I have a couple injuries and pains that will not go away (ankle, lower back, shoulder and knee). There is a lot of research that shows after 8-10 weeks of intense training it is extremely beneficial to give your body a full week of recovery(not working out) because it gives the central nervous system a time to heal. So dont expect to see posts of me training for the next week. To be honest I am not really looking forward to this because again I love working out but I know its essential because If I keep on training hard my body will eventually just become weak (already somewhat starting to feel it). I know some people will say bro you got train 24/7! No rest! No excuses! (Used to be me) yeah well that sounds cool and all but when your body is telling you to stop and rest, it is crucial to listen. Many professional athletes actually do this and point out just how important rest weeks are. First day I’ve been able to train since Saturday, constant headaches, dizzy spells and literally no energy what so ever I’ve struggled to even do a full day at work with Rhia now hassling me to go docs I have booked myself in..... what I have learnt over the last few years is listen to your body when you go from full of energy every single day to what I’ve been feeling like this week get it checked out!! So not expecting a good check in this week but you know what? Yes I have a goal and yes I will get there BUT I won’t kill myself doing it... if it takes 16 weeks instead of 12 then so be it.... I’ve stopped comparing myself to others that have the luxury of training when they want how many times they want and no family commitments everyone is on their own journey with different goals focusing on what’s important to me which is not being shredded, not being on stage just being healthy with a huge amount of muscle..... I must never forget how far I have come over the last few years with set backs galore I’m still here and still trying to be a better version of ME! From gathering data and effective communication, we noticed that my body did not respond very well to train with very high intensity. Every time the intensity was taken near maximal, i would either get severe joint pains, lack motivation or get sick as a result of poor immune system (which is expected in an overreach state) This would then influence performance as i was not recovered and prepared for training sessions. - This time we have kept everything sub-maximal and its fair to say that it has been a very effective method for my body. Strength has increased on a weekly basis and recovery has been on point so far. - Is this what the theory says? Probably not. In theory, specially in peak week, you would train with a fairly high RPE and make it as specific as possible. But from my experience, parts of practical component of training is slightly different to what the science says. What we know works for majority of population under the bell curve... Its important to know there are outliers or more effective methods that can be applied in practice which might be different for each individual. And there is no magic either... Its too soon to say goodbye 💔😭

HEY!!😍 . This morning, I woke up feeling overworked, stretched thin, exhausted, thirsty, had a headache, sore from my workout yesterday, neck hurt from maybe sleeping weird (?!)...it wasnt pretty. I had stayed up late working, plus so much more. I knew I had a morning meeting + a FULL day today, but I carried on until I curled up in bed at 3am✨ . And I had a choice...to feel sorry for myself and make choices I used to make that made me sad, out of control, lost and confused...or to make the best of the day. The decision this morning was real. Eat ice cream, dont pay attention to food intake, definitely dont do a workout, . 🙌Heres 4 ways I made the best of my day . . 📖PRAYER: Everyday I wake up and read a prayer I wrote for myself. I graduated a ministry when I was 22, but I am not religious anymore. I do still have a bible study as I love the stories in the bible!🤩 my prayer helps humble me, open my heart to miracles and leaves me feeling slightly more optimistic than before I read it. Ill leave the prayer in the comments below, but if you read it, will you promise to answer my question at the end of this post? Great! Read on, friend. . WORKOUT: I did the best workout I could get in. It was about 10 mins of high intensity, and with the way I ninja sets and reps, tempo, plyometrics and rest time, it does the job. I didnt want to do the workout at all, but I did. GENTLENESS: I had planned to get a LONGER workout in and shower before a doctors appointment that is an hour away, but I didnt measure up. I was gross and sweaty when I got to my Dr. Previously I would have told myself the workout I did wasnt enough and that I showed up at my drs looking like a deadbeat. Wow, mean self-talk, right? I chose gentleness, and kindness and compassion for me🙌💛 . TRACKED MY FOOD: I practiced intermittent fasting and tracked my food. I had green juice, roasted veggies with grilled chicken and a spinach salad Im eating as I type this. I also went out and got a froyo when I broke my fast 🍨🍧🍦😍 . . I’m a little late posting this, but here is my two month progress photo. After the one month mark I made some changes to my meal plan and to my workout to enhance my progress and I can definitely see the results. As always, I am proud of the progress that I’ve made, but I’m also frustrated that I’m not where I want to be. I’m going to stick with the changes I made for another 4 weeks as I believe they’re working well at this point. If I feel it necessary, I might make some small tweaks. . . I want to stress again the importance of taking progress pictures. You are used to seeing yourself every single day and that makes it very difficult to see the small changes that happen over time. I wanted to post a video of myself cruising through a difficult climb, but if you watch these videos then you know that didn’t happen. I may have underestimated how tired I was, underestimated the climb or overestimated myself; whichever combination of the three occurred, the result is, this climb was a STRUGGLE. . . If you watch the first video then you can literally see the disappointment on my face when I can no longer hold on to the wall and have to let go. It probably took me about 10 minutes to finish this climb. Hanging on to the wall and climbing as much as I could, falling off and repeating the pattern. If you watch the second video then you’ll see that I completed this climb. I was so exhausted at the end of the climb I had to take a breather on the floor. . . The point I’m trying to make is that I didn’t give up. I wanted it, I knew I could do it and I wasn’t willing to quit until I got it. We will all face struggles and whether they be on our own individual fitness journeys or in our everyday lives, the most important thing in dealing with them is our mindset. Approach your struggles with an indomitable will and refuse to be conquered. . . Henry Ford might have said it best when he said “Whether you think you can, or think you can’t, you’re right”. . .
