I feel like the name of this account should be changed to BB.healthlife 🌻😊 Its not that im not fit anymore- Im actually the most in shape Ive likely ever been and I loveee my F45 circuits & early morning training. Its just that- my life has become so much more than just the gym. • Fitness pulled me out my the depths of my eating disorder by igniting a fire in me that I had lost to mental illness. It helped me to set goals, gave me purpose & passion, and introduced me to some of the best people in my life, including many of you. • However, my life has changed in such a way that Ive been able to achieve a balance with so many other things. Im so freakin grateful for this platform & community that I have here, where I can talk to 16,000 people about fitness BUT ALSO about life- about relationships, about mental health, about ED recovery, heck... even about little things like the struggles of adulthood & my favorite food trends. • I no longer obsess about meal prep or what time ill get to the gym or what muscle group ill train- instead, I view exercise as a privilege, just like i view the platform I have on instagram as a privilege, too. LACTATE LAB WITH LITTLE LYSS 🔬 | Lactic acid DOES NOT CAUSE MUSCLE SORENESS. ⁣ Lactate is a product of non oxygen (O2) depended carb metabolism, and is always present in low levels and easily cleared in our blood! However, when the uptake of O2 into our cells is < the demand for O2- lactate starts to rapid accumulate.⁣ ⁣ 🏋🏼‍♀️We’ve all felt this: those last few reps, when you start to run a little faster than you can sustain. Increase lactate in our blood = acid = burning feeling 🔥 = slow down or stop to bring O2 to muscles.⁣ ⁣ Once O2 is present lactate is rapidly cleared to other muscles, liver, and heart to be turned used for energy! That’s right- it DOES NOT linger around and cause soreness, it is actually used for making energy! ⁣ ⁣ 🚴🏻‍♂️The point at which lactate begins to accumulate rapidly is known as the “lactate threshold”. This is individual and can be related to VO2 max (next weeks post 😉) and/or heart rate. ⁣ We test this in lab by doing a incremental exercise test where intensity is increased every 3 min till failure; power output, lactate & HR are taken at each stage.⁣ ⁣ The more trained you are the better you are at clearing lactate, and the higher intensity you can sustain without the “burn”! ⁣ ⁣ 🏃🏼‍♀️For endurance athletes this is vital! This means being able to maintain a pace up to 80% of their VO2 max; vs the 50-60% point of which onset typically happens in recreational /untrained individuals. ⁣ ⬆️ To train this one must train righttt above that level of steady state comfort for acute periods of exercise. This pushes that threshold over and allows one to work hard at the same level of perceived intensity! Sounds rad to me!⁣

Finding it hard to get back in shape after a long Summer? We put together a workout to get you started! Workout level: Intermediate Frequency: Perform the workout up to five times per week Time needed: 15 to 20 minutes How to do it: Perform this workout as a circuit, one exercise after another with limited rest in-between. You’ll do 100 repetitions for each set. Rest a couple of minutes once you’ve completed them and repeat for a total of three sets.
