Good morning everyone! As promised last week, heres something special for #waybackwednesday! Last weekend I stopped by my moms house to check on a few things for her and while we were there I dredged up this t-shirt from SIXTH GRADE! For you non-Americans, I was 11 years old when I got this shirt. . I remember I hardly wore it because by the following year, it was already too small. This is me wearing this 16 year old shirt in 2018: the length and fit are perfect and in a month or two, I dare say itll probably be too big. On the right is my signature on the back of the shirt and a photo of what I looked like in 6th grade. 😊 . There are times where we struggle, moments of weakness... Nights where you eat 3 servings of pickles, too many fat bombs, leftover chicken stock, a slice of bacon, and a serving of cereal along with a large chunk of sugary mass that happened to be in the bottom of the bag. . Then there are times where we wear a 16 year old shirt for the first time in 16 years and the pants you bought 2 weeks ago are loose after just a few hours. Its all part of the journey friends... This was the first time I’d worn winged eyeliner all year. Why? Because at 360 pounds I was too fat for it. I’m not being dramatic — my face was so fat that when I’d put my eyeliner on, it’d just disappear into the crease between my eye socket and the fat pocket above it. (Slide for that reference pic 🙈) I told myself it didn’t help, that I still looked bad even with makeup so on New Years I gave it up (even though I really, really love makeup). I’m posting this for everyone who is hyper-focused on the scale. Enjoy the non-scale victories too! They’re just as important and often tell a bigger story than any number on the scale ever could.💛💛💛

TWO YEARS - Two years ago today I decided to completely change my lifestyle and make a real effort toward getting healthier. Ive come a long way since then - I lost 32kgs overall, have since gained a little back, but my entire way of living is different. - Two years ago I was constantly tired. I was always sore. Id eat myself into a coma, take a nap, then eat some more. I didnt have the energy for anything. Id think about walking from one side of the shopping centre to the other and decided it wasnt worth the effort. My feet would get sore just standing for 10 minutes. Its not just that I was obese, it was that I didnt move beyond the bare minimum, and I constantly filled my body with garbage. - Now, I can do pretty much anything, and it still amazes me every day. I choose the scenic route when Im doing my errands, and I still cant believe how fast I can walk from A to B without even elevating my heart beat. I can comfortably go out in 20+ degree weather and not end up drenched in sweat. My feet never get sore anymore. I never need to take naps. I spend my time being active, and focusing on fun hobbies that I actually enjoy. I feel GREAT. - I know Im not very active here on Instagram in terms of weightloss and CICO stuff. But I am still so proud of what I achieved. Even though Im not even close to my goal weight anymore, my whole lifestyle is different and I feel so damn good. Its always a mountain. . When people say, Its only five pounds, dont listen. Ignore the word only. If youre trying to gain or lose weight, every single pound is an accomplishment - celebrate yourself and the power of your will at every one! . I started training and fit-ish-ing up my life only recently - about eight months ago. I was not confident in myself, I didnt feel physically strong. I was a bit overweight, a bit pudgy, and ran out of breath going up my apartment stairs. I just felt stagnant. Losing a little bit of weight made a world of difference, both physically and mentally. Now I am working on clean bulking - adding muscle but making sure that any gains are fueled by overall healthy calories and balanced macros, and not junky ones. Changing our bodies for the better, and maintaining that better, is hard. Im proud of the progress Im making 💪 . If youre trying to lose weight, I can tell you this from experience: its almost all in the kitchen, fewer calories in than calories out. Yes, you can burn off calories in your workouts - but cutting in your diet is what drives weight loss. One five-second piece of advice advice to the newb: cut out any beverage that isnt water, unsweetened tea or coffee, or a protein or veggie-packed smoothie used as either a meal replacement or a post-workout recovery drink. Cut out every single soda, juice, frappucino, and sweet tea. If it has calories and is just a beverage to drink with your meal or to quench your thirst: replace it with water. If you drink alcohol, do it rarely, minimally, and in a way that doesnt interfere with your daily life - and count every single one of those calories! So I ended up accidentally buying double the amount of zucchini that I would need for the week, so that means I get to try out new zucchini recipes. Life has been busy lately, so I’ve been sticking to easy meals. This barely took any time to make, and it’s delicious 😋 This is 2 chicken + apple sausages (from Walmart!!), broccoli, and roasted sweet potatoes.

For lunch I had a wrap with chicken and hummus and I even took a pic but I’m not gonna bother posting it now! I made cinnamon cake too and had a piece of that. . Ok, it kinda does, but maybe not in the way you think. To lose weight you have to eat fewer CALORIES, but that doesn’t necessarily mean less FOOD🤯 ~ If you’re wondering what that looks like, check out the graphic. The food on the left totals 2000 calories (1997 to be precise.) Now peek across the line to the food on the right. Only 1700 (1680 to be exact) calories for all of that. Woah. Big difference in volume, even though calories are lower by 300. Can you see how that works for fat loss? ~ Less calories, more volume= sustainable calorie deficit. And that, my friend equals success. Here are a few tips to do this with your meals: 👉Minimize liquid calories. 👉Minimize fried foods 👉Be careful with portion sizes, especially those of high calorie items (peanut butter is a good example) 👉Focus on whole, nutrient dense foods 👉Cook at home more often 👉Lots of high volume foods (non starchy vegetables, water-filled fruit such as strawberries & watermelon, lean proteins such as Greek yogurt & tuna, and my personal fave- air popped popcorn are a few examples. This is a great example of a low calorie meal that will keep you full for a very long time. It is well balanced with carbs, proteins and fat. Yes in order to lose weight and fat you need to be in a consistent calorie deficit. It doesn’t matter if you fast, do 5 meals a day, do low carb, high carb, eat before 5:59pm, run 10km everyday, do CrossFit. As long as you consume less energy than your body expends you will lose weight and fat. This is SIMPLE science. But this type of meal is how you can eat “less” and still remain satisfied and not feel hungry. Meals that are high in protein and greens provide a high satiety effect. Many people would like to label this as “clean” or “healthy” and think if they eat like this exclusively it will guarantee weight and fat loss. This is unfortunately not true. 2 items in this particular meal could have easily DOUBLED the calories with a few extra tablespoons: the quinoa and chickpeas. You can absolutely still GAIN weight and fat by eating “clean” if you are not careful. Oils, nuts, seeds are amongst other “healthy” items that are high in calories. So just because you think something is “healthy” or “clean” doesn’t mean it will equate to fat and weight loss. If that’s your goal then learn to know and understand the difference. The other great thing is low calorie meals like this leave you room for treats and indulgences. That’s how you become flexible with your diet and have a better mindset and relationship with food. Im in no less than I wear to a public beach, or hotel pool. If youre offended by an arse, you need to have a word with yourself. I also realised that its absolutely ok to celebrate your achievements - whether thats graduation, promotion, weight loss, washing your hair, leaving the house, or liking how your arse looks for once 👍 This is me, and Im slowly learning to accept myself, value myself, and love myself. We are MEANT to love ourselves. We are MEANT to celebrate ourselves. Some people choose to share, some prefer to keep it private - I choose to share (sometimes). OKKKK Its OK to be snobby/picky about your choices, friends, life, etc. Someone whom I still love and adore even though we dont speak anymore said I became snobby since I started my Chicago adventure. Damn right. I spend time with people that value me, my time, and love me for me. There is nothing wrong with that. Everyone deserves to have people they trust in their lives. There is nothing wrong with letting go of people whose priorities dont align with yours. There is nothing wrong with wanting to be happy. On another note - I do not think being this weight is OK. Not because I care about what people think I look like (Im cute as fuck) but because of the problems that come with being heavy. I am body positive but Im pro health. Being lighter and coming back to this is hard and makes all my medical issues worse. I dont care about skinny. I dont care about looks. I care about my body being capable of the things I want to do with it. Its not me falling for mainstream medias blah blah blah. No one is making money off of me losing weight. Shaming people for wanting to be healthy is wrong. Just like it is to shame them for any other reason. Science is king. Calories in vs calories out is fact. I do not believe in HAES or blowing off science and fact in attempts to lie to yourself. Thats not my thing. Im so tired of getting crap for wanting to be healthy. To elaborate on that. I do intermittent fasting. I dont eat for 16-20 hours a day then I have a big meal, huge salad, and thats that. I also eat low carb. Low carb isnt evil. Carbs arent evil either. I do it because I have binge issues with heavy carbs and its easier this way. Stop mocking me/others for skipping bread or pasta. Stop trying to reward me for weight loss with food. Stop saying Im starving myself (I mean come on now) for doing intermittent fasting. We all know how obsessive my research is. The point of all of this is to say... Im not going to change. Do I want to continue growing/learning? Of course! But Im not backing down from what Ive become. THE END. FOR NOW..

Ive got a big trip planned for next year that Im trying to get in shape for, which means Im back to hardcore CICO. Ironically, it means that I can eat things like this. CICO means everything is a balance. I was under my food budget yesterday and I didnt eat breakfast today. That allows me to spend 420 calories on cookies. It also helps reframe my eating - it makes a treat an actual treat rather than a habitual occurrence.
