I’m a recovering leaderboard obsessor. • As a former competitive athlete - 3 years removed - it is STILL hard to not think of every workout as a “performance”. Like my wall ball burpee circuit is some sort of circus act that needs to impress people and should stand up to the best athletes in the world - or it was worthless. • The MOST shocking thing I have learned since creating the Street Parking Community is that this problem is not a “former Games athlete” issue. It’s a most people who have been doing this type of training in the past 5-7 years issue. And it’s RUINING IT for many, many people. • Adults with careers, kids, and lives calling each other out for cheating. Not on an Open workout, or in a competition. No. In a random Facebook or IG post of someone just “working out”. People complaining that so and so wasn’t “RX” because his box was 22.5” when it’s supposed to be 24”. Classes full of people who originally came to the gym to find community and a better way to fitness, feeling pressure to use 95# - when 75# is better for them because they don’t want to “cheat” or to impress the others in class. People who will not even DO the workout unless they feel they can give 100% and PR or hit a “good score”. • 100% doesn’t happen every day. Feeling the pressure to WIN every day in something that only rarely - if ever - should be a competition with anyone other than yourself is the best recipe for injury, burnout, and adults acting like bratty JR high school girls. • We have strict rules in our community about never glorifying the people at the top of the leaderboard and NEVER under any circumstances calling out people for “CHEATING”. • “Hey, try going lower - good job!!” - @streetparking#streetparking #fitness #relax #itsjustaworkout #bebetter

You keep your commitments to everyone else. If you tell your friend youll meet her for dinner, you show up. If you volunteer at your kids school, youre right on time. So what does it mean when you keep your commitments to other people but break the ones you make to yourself? Its a subconscious reminder that YOU are not a priority to you. If you make a promise to yourself, no matter how small, you better keep it! This means youll have to be more careful with your commitments. Watch out for Uncle Rhabdo (what the elite athletes, especially Crossfitters, know as Exertional Rhabdomyolysis)! Exertional Rhabdomyolysis (ER) is a rare, potentially fatal, condition that is characterized by significant breakdown of muscle fibers. The amount of exercise-induced damage to one’s muscles is so serious that grave consequences of muscle ischemia, cardiac arrhythmia, kidney failure and death may result. Darkened urine, with high amounts of myoglobin in it, including elevated levels of creatine kinase seen in the blood, are tell tale indicators of Rhabdo. This is an extreme example of over-training without the proper active recovery protocol. . . Recovery is where the gains behind your training manifest itself. Health and Fitness professionals need to recognize that clients will spend more time in training recovery compared to actual exercise training. In order to make the most out of your training sessions, recovery is the major key that will play into individual gains and elevated performance. In today’s Literature Review Case, we bring to you:The Science of Post-Exercise Recovery by  Lance C. Dalleck, PH.D., The American Council of Exercise (ACE) Scientific Panel Member. . . Recovery Key 1: Nutrition. . It is widely accepted and researched that carbohydrates are a necessity when it comes to nutrition and recovery post exercise. Here are the guidelines to the three most important nutrients for post-exercise. . . The article suggests: 🔹CARBS: 1.2 grams of carbs per kilogram per hour. 🔹PROTEIN: 0.4 grams of protein per kilogram per hour. 🔹CAFFEINE: 2 milligrams per kilogram per hour. . Application: 200lb Active Person = 90 kilograms 108 grams of carbs need to be consumed per hour post exercise. 36 grams of protein need to be consumed per hour post exercise. 180 milligrams of caffeine CAN be consumed per hour post exercise. . The research suggested to start consumption immediately post exercise and continue to eat carbs for a few hours post exercise.
