Unless youve been through it yourself and pushed yourself to the limit, youll never understand the mental state you need to put yourself in to create the best possible physique. As I spoke about earlier on my story, Im finally starting to feel like myself again. _ Going through the cut & bulk structure can seem somewhat resemble a ying and yang effect, which explains why so many people rebound hard after their competitions. It can be easy to let everything slide after putting in months of hard work, its in our nature - But dont lose sight of your long term aspirations. Set yourself weekly goals and allow yourself some leway to relax and enjoy other aspects of life. How should I feel when dieting? Hungry. When it comes to calorie restricted diets, the aim is to offset hunger as best as possible to make the dieting phase more manageable. Thats why I suggest following a high protein diet, consuming more fibre and veggies to increase food volume, and perhaps eating a little slower to help offset this. Before the keto enthusiast jumps in, this is a nice method for suppressing appetite also. But, weve got to be real here guys. You are in a calorie deficit. There is an energy demand placed upon the body that you are not meeting. Therefore, to satisfy this deficit in energy, the body opts to use stored energy to fill in the gaps. Since the bodies main role is survival, it does not want to get lean. It does not give a shit what you look like. It wants to preserve energy. In this case, it ramps up your hunger hormone known as Ghrelin to increase appetite. This will then increase the desire to eat. You see, hunger originates in your stomach and is initiated based on its level of emptiness. I.e. if your stomach is empty, it sends signals which make you eat. Likewise, the stomach expands and distends when full, which initiates the opposite. Since youre dieting and not eating all too much, the hunger signal sometimes gets left on. Plus, your fullness gut peptide hormones that get released from the gut as food passes through it dont really have much to say during this phase. If there is a lack of food, there is a lack of signalling. For the nerd in the room, these appetite surpressing gut peptide hormones are; GLP-1, cholecystokinin (CCK) and PYY. On top of this, you then have those nasty, demon like hedonic drive cravings shouting at you...which is a topic in itself. As you can imagine, the further you restrict calories, the greater the hunger issues become - because the presence of food in your gut simply isnt there. So, well always have a trade off here. Calorie restrictions = under eating. Get used to being a bit hungry, this is normal. Suck it up.

Salt and pepper. White sauce. 1/4 cup vegan butter. 2 Tbsp flour. 350mL plant milk. 1/4 cup nutritional yeast OR grated vegan cheese. 8-10 lasagne sheets. Method. 1. Preheat oven to 200 degrees C. 2. Heat a large frypan over medium heat. When hot, add onion and cook till translucent. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds. Add carrot, zucchini and cook balsamic vinegar and cook for a further 2 mins. 3. Add remaining ingredients then bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10-15 or until tender. 4. Meanwhile, make white sauce. Melt butter in a saucepan. Turn off heat and whisk in flour. Once whisked, add milk and yeast/cheese. Return to heat and whisk until you bring to a boil, seasoning with salt and pepper. 5. Assemble your lasagne. In a large baking tray, add a layer of the lentil mix, top with white sauce and then a layer of lasagne sheets. Repeat with more layers, finishing with a white sauce layer on top. Are you eating to fuel your training or are you chronically dieting?⠀ ⠀ Chronic calorie restriction. Food fear. Constant fatigue and lethargy. Poor recovery. More cardio. More HIIT. No progress like expected so you lose motivation and vow to diet harder and restrict some more.⠀ ⠀ This has been me in the past and I know it’s also happened to so many of us and girls are particularly vulnerable. ⠀ ⠀ While going through periods of structured dieting is completely fine, so many of us just slash calories without thinking of the consequences. ⠀ ⠀ As females, chronic calorie restriction over long periods of time won’t to the lean body you’re striving for and will lead to a whole host of health issues. ⠀ ⠀ Increased stress on our body caused by the stress of being in a starvation state increase the stress hormone cortisol and trust me this is not your friend for fat loss. Over training coupled with under fueling leaves recovery poor and affects subsequent training sessions. ⠀ ⠀ Injuries are more likely. Your immune system is taking a hit and you’re constantly picking up every cold that goes around. Your energy levels are shot from poor sleep and possible nutrient deficiencies such as iron deficiency.⠀ ⠀ Hormones are a mess too. The stress placed on your body coupled with low fat intakes will alter your menstrual cycle and may even stop your periods.⠀ ⠀ I’ve been victim to all of the above in the past and let me tell you, it is NOT worth it and it is NOT how you achieve body composition changes🙅🏽‍♀️⠀ ⠀ If you’re training multiple times a week and have high activity levels, you need to eat to fuel your body❤️ Yes, I’m telling you to eat more of the good stuff to fuel your training and life and to enjoy whatever you fancy in moderation 🍫🍔 Don’t be afraid of carbohydrates, they’re the fuel that allow you to get through workouts. Protein will help to repair and grow your muscles. Fat is essential for regular hormonal function. ⠀ ⠀ When your body is hungry, listen to it. It’s pretty clever. Respect it enough to fuel it with nutrient dense foods and feel the difference in your training, progress, mood, immune function and sleep❤️

Transforming and the change in Body Parts...I talked about this before, the photo on the left, my breast size never really changed I was eating to lift mass weight 36 D+ ... the photo on the right total difference down to a 32 A- cup, with chicken cutlets stuffing so I had nothing, no fat basically skin😮. They were still my breast but I must admit, naked I was shocked at what I would see👀. Confidence, well lets just say being married, I didnt want him to look at them either, I kept them covered for months... the whole time, all day long...but it comes with Bodybuilding competitions & soon became something we both grew use to. Happy birthday! Woohoo :).🎂❤🎂 Wow, what a journey. The picture on the left is a photo taken of me on my 18th birthday (around the time that my weight struggles really started to head down an unhealthy path). My family tell me that the biggest difference they see in my transformation is that I smile with my eyes now :). I think I am starting to understand what they mean. The beauty of celebrating our birthdays is that it gives us an opportunity to reflect on all that has happened before this moment. From that understanding, we can think about where the future may take us. Im not sure where life will lead me, truly. There have been so many turns on this winding road already haha. All that I know is that holding my health textbook now smiling all day instead of with that piece of chocolate then so deeply uncomfortable in that shirt (I remember this moment so vividly lol), gives me so much joy and happiness. •• Training the muscle or training the movement?•• This, in my opinion, is the biggest difference between training for strength, and training for hypertrophy. I also find it a vital question to ask yourself when you’re assessing your training. Take the bench press for example. If the goal is strength for powerlifting, you’ll see people arch their back to minimise the range as much as possible and use an explosive movement with a lot of leg drive. This is great for moving a lot of weight, but is it great for building your pecs? The arch, minimises total range of motion and the leg drive takes total work off the target muscle groups. If the goal is hypertrophy, the setup is different from start to finish! What I’m trying to do with this example is get you thinking if you’re training the movement or the muscle and whatever the answer, is it in line with your goals? Assess your training!

I grew up in a no-nonsense environment where everyone works sun up to sun down just to make ends meet. Most of us only know TWO extremes of eating: STARVING or STUFFED. Very rarely do we actually slow down to mindfully eat our food, be aware of our hunger levels, our body and its cues.⠀ ⠀⠀ 📊Have you seen the hunger scale before? If not, here it is! It’s a great way to think about your physical sensation and mood as it pertains to hunger. Being more aware of hunger can help you:⠀ ⠀⠀ 🔺manage portion sizes⠀ 🔺control emotional eating⠀ 🔺understand when to stop eating⠀ 🔺recognize your personal hunger cues⠀ ⠀⠀ 🧠In order to lose weight, being mindful and eating slowly is needed to tune in and recognize the signs of fullness.⠀ ⠀⠀ 🍴You should practice trying to eliminate hunger, NOT chase fullness. I made the mistake of chasing fullness for the first part of my dieting life and when I made the switch, I noticed a big change in my body. In other words, on the chart, the goal should be numbers 5-6. Ideally, you should feel as though you could workout an hour later without discomfort.⠀ ⠀⠀ ❌Zones 1-3: Try to stay out of these zones to avoid binging, overeating, or becoming ravenous or lightheaded.⠀ ✅Zones 4-7: The sweet spot of fullness. Those with keen eyes 👀 may have noticed that I’m being very fast and loose with being a vegetarian 🌱 it worked for me for three years, and I believe it will work for me again in the future, but for now all I know is that eating fish and occasionally meat is making me feel so much better and I haven’t felt dizzy or fainted since I reintroduced it. For a long time the thought of eating meat physically revolted me, now I crave it. So I’m not going to question it, my body clearly was lacking in something I needed.

SNACKING - IS IT MAKING YOU FAT?: with @coachcarluk - 🤨 The one with the: CALORIES FROM SNACKING - 🧐 Let’s look at it this way... someone eating around 1400 calories a day coming from 3 meals a day (the 3 meals a day isn’t the focus here btw), is more than likely going to drop unwanted body fat. WHY.....? - 🙌🏼 As at these calories, it’s more than likely going to put them in a caloric deficit. Win! - 😕 Now for a lot of people (especially those that train and move very little) 2000 calories is likely to help them gain fat. WHY....? - 👻 As this is likely to put them in a caloric surplus. Boo. - 🍫 But what I’m trying to show you here is those extra calories that are taking that daily total number up to 2000 (or more) is likely coming from the ‘snacks’ that they are consuming. - 🤷🏼‍♂️ Also those ‘snacks’ are normal not tracked or more forgotten! Like they never happened... funny that aye. - 🙄 Believe it or not... you don’t actually need snacks if you plan your meals and the quality of those meal better. - ☝🏼Get protein in at all of them, and add your carbs and fat accordingly. Also making sure you get a decent amount of fibre in there too to help keep you fuller for longer. (Protein also helps with this) - 4️⃣ I’ve literally stopped snacking now and work on a 4 meal a day plan as this works perfect for me. - 👉🏼 This doesn’t mean it will work perfectly for you as we are all different. But creating a 4th full meal that works within my calorie intake (that’s for both to if I’m leaning or looking to gain muscle) means I no longer needs snacks. - 🤓 If you would like to understand this in more detail.... comment below and I’ll happily explain more. - Coach Carl 👊🏼 - 🚨 FYI.... 1400 calories isn’t a magic number, it’s just for examples sake.

📂 Tb to last year after a serious diet which made me lost almost 10kg..
