Every day, I wake up to messages from people who feel discouraged that the number on the scale isn’t budging. . As someone who used to measure progress on the scale, I know how frustrating this can be. . Day after day, you’re nailing your diet, hitting your workouts, and still nothing. . UGH. . Why even bother, right? Why eat the chicken and broccoli? Why do the lunging and push-ups if nothing is going to change? . But here’s the thing — and what so many fail to realize — the scale is just ONE data point for measuring progress among many. And not a very good one at that. . Do you know what is? . HOW YOU FEEL. . Are you proud of yourself? Do you have a sense of accomplishment? Are you in a better mood? Decreased stress? . And what about the physical changes? . Do you feel more energized? Are you getting stronger? Are your clothes fitting looser? Are others mentioning your weight loss? Do you look smaller in pictures? . Also, keep in mind, women in particular have massive scale weight fluctuates due to a whole slew of factors that can vary by up to 5.5 pounds per day (see previous posts on this topic). . I threw my scale away years ago. . It was helping more than it helped. If I saw a number I was happy with, I’d give myself permission to eat a bit more, because yay! And if I saw a number I didn’t like, I’d get upset and want to quit. . Instead, I just worried about mastering my daily process goals: . ▪️3-4 meals per day, no mindless eating in-between ▪️protein and veggies in every meal ▪️3L of water daily ▪️lift weights 3-4 times weekly ▪️adequate sleep . And guess what happened? . The scale never changed, but my body did. . This is in relation to the claim that carbohydrate consumption will make you fat. - - The immediate problem with such a dubious claim is the mirky differentiation of carbohydrates as an entity within edible food. Pizza, pasta, chips, bread, pastry and sweet treats all fall inside the umbrella of “Don’t eat that... it’s got carbs and you’ll get fat.” - - Yet if we examine the exact ingredients in such food we can immediately assert that carbohydrates are not the only caloric variable present. The examples displayed on the right of this graphic in actual fact represent foods which contain calories from carbs, protein and more pertinently, fat. - - Body composition is determined by overall calorie balance. Put simply, fat contains 9 calories per gram, compared to 4 calories per gram respective of protein and carbs. You want one glass of coke? 150 calories. But heck, who only drinks one glass of coke? Awesome dinner meal for a whopping 356 calories. The secret to a successful #diet isn’t some magic pill or hot new diet fad (looking at you #Keto and intermittent fasting) it is a simple equation. . . If calories consumed is > than calories expended this = a calorie surplus. Calorie surplus = gained weight. Likewise if calories expended are < than calories consumed it = calorie deficit. Calorie deficit = weight loss. . . This is why #iifym or #flexibledieting is the best way (IMO) to diet. . . This type of meal is incredibly filling/satiating for a minimal calorie count. 💥SLEEP LIKE A BABY💥 - Sleep, it’s something we do every single day. Yet, most of the human beings on earth don’t know to properly do it. Why? Because nobody ever taught you how to do it! - To get the most out of your 7-8-9 hours (that’s how much you should be getting) you want to setting yourself up for a solid night’s of sleep DURING THE DAY!!! Sounds weird right? But it’s true! - No caffeine after 3-4 PM, you don’t want to have caffeine in your system when you go to sleep. That’ll impair sleep quality. Just as having a lot of food to digest. Don’t eat a big meal 2-3 hours before bed. - Don’t drink late either, this might wake you up because you have to pee. And TRY to not have to train late at night. Training late at night will impair sleep quality. - Plan your next day so you know exactly what you’ll be doing and you don’t hit your bed thinking about a gazillion things. This one is HUGE. - Keep your room cold. This will help you. You’ll thank me later. Block out screens (or use f.lux) to block out blue light, this will mess with your biological clock. Blacking out your room will massively help you. - And lastly, studies have shown that ALL human beings have the best sleep between 10pm and 2pm. *Thinking about what Im going to have to eat later* - 😂😂 In all seriousness though... Theres absolutely nothing wrong with loving food and looking forward to it (in fact, thats a great thing! The more joy you can squeeze out of everyday life, the better!). But, when your hyper-focus on food takes away from your ability to be fully present/effective in other areas of life, or causes you stress & anxiety, thats when it can become a problem and calls for some deeper investigation. - If you struggle at times with being overly food-focused, here are a few questions you can ask yourself: - 👉Do you restrict yourself from eating certain foods, or restrict those foods to only certain occasions❓ Our brains are wired to want what they cant have & whats scarcely available (there are countless sales tactics & even dating strategies designed around these very psychological principles - & while they might be sleezy, they are most certainly effective!). By telling yourself you cant have certain foods, or that you can ONLY have them at certain times, youre only making yourself want them more and keeping them in the forefront of your mind! - 👉Do you have a scarcity mindset with food❓ Speaking of scarcity, something thats common for weight- or calorie-conscious individuals is that they are so focused on running out of food/not having enough, that they dont actually ENJOY the food when theyre eating it! By focusing on being as present as possible with your meals and squeezing out as much pleasure as you possibly can from them, you can shift the focus away from scarcity & anxiety and towards gratitude & enjoyment. - 👉Are you starving other areas of your life❓ If you A) arent getting enough pleasure in areas of your life apart from food, or B) have a surplus of attention due to a lack of purpose/passion in your life, you might be turning to food to fill those voids. Ask yourself: What are some things in life that give me pleasure apart from food? Am I getting enough of them recently? What gives me a sense of purpose, or what are some activities that I get totally immersed in when Im engaged in them? Is it time to introduce more of those things into my life?

#nobake breakie cookie of the week. Flavor: Walnut Almond Butter. What do you all do when you start feeling those post-weekend-eating-guilt-thoughts? (more context below) — I ate SUCHHH good food this Saturday night, a Greek dinner, some wine, & icecream (2 scoops: Dark Chocolate & Cookie Crumble Strawberry Jam, it was bomb).. and I expect at least 1 night a week where I like to celebrate my food a lil more... but its SO hard not to feel guilt afterward, not to want to restrict, or play games with myself in order to make up for the excess energy (aka calories)... Im so good at playing these very subtle mind tricks with myself now & to ignore them is anxiety-inducing bc what if theyre right?!... You can hear more of my thoughts on this in my stories… — I usually make one serving in the morning before I head out for a work (hence the quality of this video)... If I keep more than one in the fridge, Im tempted to have more than one during the day lol — 1 serving Walnut Almond Butter Protein 🍪 Cookie 2 TB coconut flour 2 TB collagen 1 TB  @365bywholefoods almond butter ~2 TSP coconut milk @traderjoeslist (I would start with 2-4 TSP & mix as you go this way you dont add too much) I topped with some crumbled walnuts and an extra drizzle of almond butter 🤩
