How I plan to stay lean while travelling. ⠀ With currently a week into a month of travelling Australia , Bali, and New Zealand, ill likely not step into a gym for that time. So, other than hiking, walking 15,000+ steps daily, and doing my first bodyweight workout today this is how I’m approaching it. ⠀ My goal is to maintain weight and accept ill get weaker, temporarily. ⠀ So how am I going to do that? ⠀ 1️⃣Dont diet ⠀ When you’re on a trip or holiday you absolutely should NOT be dieting. The whole point of it is to relax, meaning, calories and macros aren’t to be counted. Not stressing over what you should eat and what you shouldnt eat. Enjoy the hell out of the time. You might never get that experience back. ⠀ ⠀ 2️⃣ Fast on the flight ⠀ In most cases airplane food tastes a bit balls. You’re only eating it because it’s free, and you’re bored. ⠀ This is all flight length dependant, though. ⠀ If you’re flight is in the afternoon then eat breakfast and fast flying. ⠀ If you’re flying in the morning then fast then and eat when you land. ⠀ However, If you have health issues and cant fast, then obviously eat. ⠀ ⠀ ​3️⃣ Dont waste calories ⠀ It blows my mind when I travel with friends and the first thing they do is hunt down a McDonald’s. on of the best parts of travelling is trying out local cuisines. This also reduces the amount of choice youre exposed to. ⠀ Basically, If you can get it back home, dont eat it. ⠀ 4️⃣Walk, every chance you get ⠀ I have walked between 15,000-25,000 steps every day, so far. Its the easiest way to ramp up calorie expenditure to offset a lot of the calorie intake. It’s also the easiest way to see more of your surroundings and familiarise yourself. ⠀ You can also use the time to take a forced training deload, so don’t freak out if you can’t find a gym. ⠀ ⠀ 5️⃣Reduced Meal Frequency ⠀ ​Reducing how often you eat is far easier when you have exploring to do. ⠀ So far I’ve enjoyed each meal and snack while getting in plenty of coffee, water, and the odd beer. ⠀ sometimes you’ll overshoot on cals, sometimes you won’t. It’s a great way to practice hunger and satiety signalling. ⠀ ⠀ The chances are I’ll come back heavier 🤷🏻‍♂️

And while weight loss certainly happens all the time, weight loss maintenance is far trickier. Yo-yo dieting is the norm, but it doesnt have to be! In order to maintain weight loss, you have to execute the right behaviors on a consistent basis. This means that a lifestyle change is in order. As Wing and Phelan write in their 2005 paper, Long-term weight loss maintenance, those who successfully maintain weight loss exercise regularly, eat well, and manage stress, and this is supported by numerous other studies. Heres my take: 1️⃣Like the way you eat. Keep calories moderate, consume adequate protein, and also incorporate some of your favorite treats into your diet. Nip cravings in the bud before they spiral out of control, but most of the time you should be eating nutrient-dense foods. Further, you may not always be able to control what you eat, but you can always control how much. Portion control is your friend. 2️⃣Like the way you exercise. Lifting weights will help build lean body mass, but stay active in other ways as well. Yoga, walking, tennis - find a physical activity that you enjoy and look forward to and perform it often. 3️⃣Have regular-checkins. Frequent self-monitoring is an important strategy because it provides feedback that allows you to modify your behaviors accordingly. 4️⃣Manage sleep & stress. Keeping your stress levels in check and prioritizing sleep are crucial and often overlooked components of a healthy lifestyle. Sleep in particular is a keystone habit that impacts everything else in your day-to-day life. The good news is that weight loss maintenance gets easier over time. After 2-5 years at a given bodyweight, it becomes more effortless to maintain. Rather than focusing on the next 12 weeks, consider the long-term. You want to adopt behaviors that you know you can keep up. Consistency is key!

FOLLOW➡️ @healthy.calories.world Shrimp Avocado Quinoa Bowls Made By @gimmedelicious Ingredients 1 avocado, pitted and sliced 2 cups chopped romaine lettuce or your favorite greens ½ cup tomato, diced ¼ cup onion, diced (optional) Lime for dressing For the qunioa ½ cup uncooked quinoa (any variety white or golden, red, or black) 1 cup water ¼ teaspoon salt For the Shrimp ½ pound shrimp, shelled and deveined 1 tablespoon olive oil 1 teaspoon paprika 1 clove garlic, crushed (or ½ teaspoon garlic powder) ¼ teaspoon EACH salt, onion powder, thyme, oregano, black pepper, cayenne pepper Instructions To cook quinoa: Start off by boiling water for the quinoa. Bring 1 cup of water to boil in a large saucepan. Rinse quinoa under cold water and drain well. Stir in salt and quinoa. Lower heat and cook, covered, for 15 minutes. Turn off heat and let rest, covered, for 5 minutes. To Cook the shrimp: While the quinoa is cooking, In a medium bowl, combine the shrimp, oil, and spices. Heat a large heavy-duty non-stick pan to medium-high heat for 2 minutes. Once the pan is hot, coat the pan with a light drizzle of oil (if using a non-stick pan) and cook the shrimp in batches for 2 minutes per side or until charred and cooked through. Do not over-crowd the pan. Divide lettuce (or greens) into two large serving bowls. Top each bowl with half the quinoa, shrimp, avocado, tomato, and onion. You are what you eat right? & I eat a lot of ice cream. I LOVE that stuff. Gelato, frozen yogurt, you name it. If it’s creamy, cold and delicious I want it. . . Anyways it’s been a long/short week. Seems like yesterday was Monday, except tomorrow is Friday so that’s inaccurate. And I’m on a plane ✈️ to Boston Saturday night. Not exactly sure how the diet will go so many miles from home but I’ll try. . . Can’t feel my legs every few days, and while I think it’s a good thing, my knees buckle and I ain’t about it. I’m down a pound and some change and haven’t been so strict on counting my calories. Just trying to eat things in moderation and smaller portions. Still getting my daily exercise and just trying to be conscious of how I treat myself... it’s not always great. But anyways, still got some poundage to go. I’d like to build leg muscle as well so I may not be seeing my weight loss results as quickly because who knows, maybe I’m building some muscle as well. Okay, now I’m rambling. The gym scared the shit out of me... - I felt anxious at the thought of even the word “gym”. I was scared, frustrated, confused what to do. That gym-timidation was real for me. - I was scared to go after what I wanted. I had the motivation to go and then my anxiety would kick in and say “they’re going to stare at you. They know you don’t know what you’re doing. Don’t make a fool of yourself cass”. - I beat myself up about it every time I wanted to go and didn’t. I would lay in my bed feeling guilty. - I was so tired of feeling this way. So, I decided to take action. I researched. I watched YouTube videos on proper form, I made a plan to follow, and I realized that no one really knows what they’re doing at first. We all have to start somewhere. - Taking the actions that I did helped me get to where I am today. I am able to help and teach others to find their love for exercise, my confidence is way higher, and I feel so much more comfortable now doing my own thing. - If you struggle with this, your not alone! Period end of story, if anybody argues differently please RUN!!! - 🍗Eat sufficient protein (1 gram per lbs of lean mass) If you’re in a calorie deficit but you’re not eating enough protein you’re not only going to lose fat but you’re also going to lose muscle mass, you don’t want that to happen right? Eat yo proteins. - 🏋️Strengh train 3-5x a week. I think every human being should have some form of strength training. I’m not even going to list the benefits of strength training because you know them, build muscle, faster metabolism, look better, mental toughness, etc. - 👉And lastly, and I think of all of them, MOST IMPORTANTLY. Focus on behavior changes. I see so many things on the internet nowadays like: “lose fat forever without changing your lifestyle”. WHAT KIND OF DOG CRAP IS THAT?!!!!! Of course you’re going to change your lifestyle. That’s the entire damn point. Focus on changing your lifestyle and the results will come.
