Flick of the wrist...into neutral 🙋☝ It might not seem like much but having your wrists in a proper straight position (right pictures) can make all the difference with bench pressing and other exercises. If your set up is off then everything else will be shite!💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩💩 The Details🔍: Having my wrist bent on the barbell and dumbbells (left pictures) makes it hard to create max tension, control the weight properly, and it also puts far too much stress on the wrist joint. When using the barbell, you want to think of breaking the barbell or pulling it apart. Actually try to break it until your palms turn a different colour. This creates tension on the barbell and your upper body which makes the weight feel lighter and also engages your lats. You also want to make sure that youre stacked so the barbell is underneath your wrists. You do this by having the barbell lower on your hand so the meatier portion as opposed to near your finger. This makes it easier to press up from your triceps, shoulders and pecs which are a lot more powerful than pressing with bent wrists. - 🔩🔩🔩📝: In regards to the dumbbells, you want to make sure you are gripping the dumbbell right in the middle and not the sides like the pictures on the left. This puts greater stress on the wrist (ulna and raduis) and gives you less control when pushing up. Having your wrist in a loose and bent position while pushing dumbbells overhead could cause serious injury as you have less control! You can also use wrists straps if needed. Rock The Bells 💪🏽‼️ I came up with this idea because I get a lot of questions as to what folks can do when they’re pressed for time, on the road, or just have limited access to equipment. So over the next few weeks, every Tuesday I’ll be giving you some nuggets on how you can maximize your gains with just a pair of dumbbells or just one kettle bell hence. I’ll always make sure @llcoolj iconic jam is playing in the background while doing so.. b/c hip hop is life. * * Try this one: Dumbbell Burpee Deadlift Why? It’s a great total body move that engages large muscle groups and requires you to go tap into your cardiovascular system as well. * * How much weight? Use a weight that allows you to move well and with good technique. If you only have access to light weights then just move a little faster to increase the intensity. * * The Workout? Set a 10 minute running clock and execute 10 reps at the top of every minute (Rest upon completion of 10) for a total of 100 reps in 10mins. If that’s too rough then try to do as many reps as you can in one minute and rest the alternating minute to see how many reps you can accumulate in 5 attempts. * * Be safe, scale accordingly and remember to... “Sorry in advance! Lol.. Here this goes.... so in the Air Force we have to take a fitness test every 6 months and you have to score a 75% or better to pass. There is a bonus. If you score a 90 or above then you only have to test ONCE A YEAR. I’ve never scored a 90, and in fact I failed the run in 2010. Ever since then I have a fear I failure. I was lazy, ate like crap and every 6 months I would try the latest and greatest diet fad to lose enough weight for my test. I’d drastically cut 20 lbs all the meanwhile becoming a truly miserable person to be around. I would stress myself out so bad that I would be sick going into the test. I’d struggle on sit-ups and the run. My goal was to just pass!!! I needed to break this cycle... needed to change. So 6 months ago I took a chance.... and walked into your gym and met you! After one day I was hooked, I found something that I actually enjoyed with a community that supports each other. I haven’t thought about my test for 5 months. All I cared about was Crossfit, being apart of the Furyan family...... today was my test. I didn’t stress about it, I didn’t make life miserable for myself and other around me. Today I scored my first EXCELLENT.... EVER!!! I achieved a goal that I honestly never thought I could reach... not because of ability but because of being lazy and doubting myself. I joined CrossFit to be a better person physically and mentally. Along with being a place to come to during personal issues, it has helped me physically, mentally and spiritually become a better person. I can’t even begin to thank you for EVERYTHING!
