Did you know? *Women are more likely to have feet problems? (4x more likely compared to men) *High heels push the centre of gravity forward, taking the hips and spine out of alignment? *People are twice as likely to buy a pair of shoes that is too small, rather then too big, which cause toenail problems, foot cramping and other feet issues. *Your hip muscles create the arch, your foot muscles stabilize the arch once it’s formed. *1 in 10 people will suffer with planter fasciitis at some point in their life. 👣 I’ve been completely geeking out this week about FEET! Yes those poor extremities that we neglect daily are KEY to our future knee, hip and back health. . How I experience and treat my feet has been forever changed💡 Here are a few of my favourite facts from this week: 1️⃣ Your feet contain 25% of all the bones in your body - if these bones are out of alignment, so is the rest of your body. 2️⃣ Our feet are super adaptable and are designed to work brilliantly on uneven terrain - but are somewhat over-engineered for modern day living on mainly flat surfaces. 3️⃣ By encasing our feet in narrow, soft and supportive shoes we inevitability weaken them and inhibit their ability to communicate effectively with the brain. 25% of Americans have flat feet (no arches) which can knock the ankle, knee and hip out of alignment. I’m going without shoes and slippers as often as possible to help strengthen my feet. If my feet get cold, I will move them about! 4️⃣ Getting Tadasana (Mountain Pose) right at the beginning of your yoga practice is of paramount importance, as it forms the basis for all standing poses. The even distribution of weight and correct foot position in Mountain will set the right balance and alignment for the rest of the standing practice⛰ This would be true of any load bearing exercise - like a squat or kettle bell swing. Take a moment to get the right foot position, distribute the weight and lightly engage the core before you begin. . 📚 Credit to @akram_yoga @felix_yoga and @_laurayoga for their excellent teaching which I’ve summarised (massively) here. Also check out @drchatterjee podcast with @thefootcollective for some foot-hip-back health insights - which, if you’re a mum also gives food for thought about how we treat our children’s feet too 👣 . How much attention do you pay to your feet? Do you struggle with foot/knee issues and how do they affect your health and fitness?

Foot facts: The feet are our body’s foundation.. Just like any change in a foundation causes undesirable and harmful shifts in a building structure; similarly when the alignment of the feet is at fault, they are placed in an unstable position. This causes other body parts to shift in order to compensate for the instability, eventually causing problems in the above structures, i.e. legs, knees, hips and spine. Hence, focus on correcting and improving your bodys foundation to have a well balanced, pain-free and fit body. . . #feet #footfacts #bodysfoundation #balance #footalignment #biomechanics #faultyfootalignment #faultybiomechanics #footarch #flatfeet #flatfoot #pronation #supination #instability #correction #insoles #orthotics #pain #movement #legpain #kneepain #shinpain #hippain #backpain #backache #painfreeliving #painfreelife #healthyfeethappyfeet #fitforlife #feetforlife

We are celebrating the Blue Footed Booby this #WildlifeWednesay in honor of our 2018 Eco-Hero of the week, Will, founder of @TheBlueFeetFoundation! ✅ There are an estimated 40,000 breeding pairs of blue-footed boobies in the world. They are native to Central and South America and can be found all along the Pacific coast, stretching from Southern California down to Peru. This marine bird mainly resides in the open sea but depends on ocean islands for breeding. Approximately 70% of the total blue-footed booby population are found in the Galapagos Islands. ✅ Their diet consists of fish, mainly sardines, anchovies, and mackerel, which they catch through a spectacular dive into the water from the air. They are a social species and can often be found in flocks of up to 200 scouring the water for fish with their excellent binocular-style vision. ✅ The bluer the feet the more attractive a blue-footed booby is to a mate. Also, blue-footed boobies that were food-deprived for two days had a decrease in foot brightness so it’s true that foot color is a sign of health. ✅ Baby blue-footed boobies can look bigger than their parents because of their fluffy baby feathers and they’re not born with blue feet! The first month after hatching, chicks stand on their parent’s feet to keep warm. Blue-footed boobies don’t have a brooding patch (bare skin on the underbelly) to keep their eggs warm. They use their webbed feet, which have an increased blood supply. . . . #WildlifeWednesday #footfacts #bluefootedbooby #conservation #galapagos #wildlife #birds #birdsofinstagram #nature #naturephotography #galapagosislands #WildlifeFacts #NatureFacts #takeaction #kidscanchangetheworld

With summer fast approaching your little ones will no doubt be looking forward to splashing around or better yet going on a summer holiday. It is this time of year I see an influx of plantar warts (warts that form on the soles of the feet) this is because warts are spread by a water bourne viral infection, often found around pool edges or spas. They are also picked up in communal bathrooms, especially at caravan parks, where there is a lot of foot traffic and less regular bathroom sanitisation. The best advice to prevent your child or you from contracting plantar warts is to wear thongs at ALL times in showers when on holidays and around pool edges. If you do see an unusual lesion on your foot have it looked at by your podiatrist. We commonly see patients who have their wart misdiagnosed as corns 🙄. #foothealth #warts #childrensfeet #childrenspodiatrist #holidayadvice #footfacts

Having #diabetes has a number of important implications for foot and ankle problems. ⠀ https://buff.ly/2Gi4JqZ⠀ There are two main problems related to diabetes in the foot. ⠀ 1) The first is decreased circulation, which tends to occur in patients with longstanding diabetes, especially if it is poorly controlled.⠀ 2) The second problem is decreased sensation to the foot. A loss of protective sensation is often the most the important problem that diabetes creates. Altered sensation to the foot means that the individual cannot feel normal pressure and pain. This loss of sensation can lead to repetitive such as diabetic ulcerations or stress fractures (Charcot arthropathy) as patients are unable to sense that their tissue is being injured.⠀ #DiabetesAwarenessMonth #Diabetic #charcotarthopathy #footulcer #insulin #type1 #type2#patienteducation #FootEducation #healtheducation #MedEd #education #4patients #peerreviewed #FOAMed #DigitalHealth #mhealth #beinformed #footandankle #orthopaedics #orthopedicsurgery #footfacts #anatomy #ankle #foot #healthyfeet

Avoid Foot Fatigue Changing shoe styles everyday will help prolong your footwear and feet! The repetitive stresses of wearing the same pair of shoes day after day, can eventually cause discomfort. Alternate heel heights and consider different toe shapes throughout the week to give the foot and leg muscles a chance to rest by engaging different muscles and so that the foot does not become stuck in any one position. Whatever shoes you choose make size & fit your priority. Remember if they bend your toes wont mend!  #FootFacts #Tips #Shoes Shop MYSHUBOX.COM for style without sacrifice.

👣Not only are they adorable, but here are some interesting facts about baby feet... • The bones of the foot are pliable at birth and are not well formed until around eight years old and not fully formed until 18. The reason why properly fitted shoes are a must! • Babies have no arch until around 2 years old. • Babies do not need shoes as they can inhibit movement and growth. Wait until they are walking. • Walking does not happen until the muscles are ready. This happens at different ages, taking up to an average of 15 months. • Webbed or extra toes (polydactyl) is quite common and correctable with surgery. • Clubfoot occurs in 1 out of every 1,000 births. This defect is easily treatable.
