Changing body composition is like a jigsaw puzzle , if one of the pieces is missing then you can’t get the full results. I’ve been struggling to get all my pieces in place lately- not eating enough, not enough water, half hearted workouts, not enough sleep etc etc.... I have been so focused and putting so much pressure on my self to get a ‘perfect’ bikini body for Thailand that I lost the love for whatI was doing. So today I regrouped, and thought back to my favourite workouts and to when I felt the best about my body (not to when I was at my thinnest but to when I felt healthy/strong/happy!) I decided it was when I was kickboxing and lifting mega heavy weights, so today I had my scrambled egg for breakfast, had a quick warm up and hit the weights. Had fun with drop sets, 1 RM training and pushing myself to the limits.... I absolutely loved it, I’m not where I used to be, I’ve alot of work to do, but I had such a good session, I feel amazing - and I know that working hard having fun will now change my body composition anyway!! It shows that getting the pieces of the puzzle in place, and enjoying what you do makes all the difference....though I may not move my arms in the morning 🙈 it was great fun & I fell in love with my training again! It’s all in the text! To get good results and feel the benefits you must be CONSISTENT. I know having children, certain jobs, illnesses, injuries, cravings, and incomes can have a lot of influence over ‘consistency’ trust me I’ve been there!! But there is always a way around it to take your consistency from 40% to 80% or more. Because there also factors like procrastination, lack of planning, tunnel vision, lack of drive, T.V, and other lifestyle choices that play just as big a role in the outcome. Gradually bring in new changes but ensure you really put some focus into it because habits don’t form overnight, but after a few weeks you will begin to see the difference. It may sound hard but once your in the groove you will look back and realise how easy it really was 💁🏼‍♀️ Who needs to work on their consistency? Next to the big man himself. The wax works museum was a great place to visit. But all the people who made it there had put hard work in their whole life. Arnold is a great example of this. He was in the army, working long and exhausting hours. Yet every morning he would be up before everyone else working out. Then he went on to be probably the most well known bodybuilder ever. Then he went into acting. I dont believe at any point he had a lucky break. He worked hard for what he wanted to achieve and then kept looking for the next thing to conquer. If youre always chasing the burn then you probably arent working as hard as you think. _________ The burning sensation we feel when doing prolonged bouts of intense exercise is a byproduct of a process called glycolisis (carbohydrate metabolism) __________ This process brings about an accumulation of hydrogen ions, thereby increasing the acidity of the muscle which inhibits the muscles ability to contract. __________ Which is why its impossible to work at 100% intensity for any longer than 10 seconds before your speed or force production drops off. If that wasnt the case then we would all be running sub 4 minute miles. __________ The point is, that if youre constantly working in an acidic environment, then your level of output is significantly reduced. Therefore you probably arent working at a high enough intensity to stimulate an increase in strength, speed or power. __________ Likewise if you want to be aerobically fitter, then the majority of your conditioning work should be kept below 70% to avoid slipping into the glycolitic energy system. __________ Thats not to say that you should never train the glycolitic energy system, but it should be utilised periodically throughout the year... Not every time you step foot in the gym. __________ So in summary, when youre training for strength, speed and power, keep the intensity / quality of work high and take plenty of rest between sets & exercises. Likwise, when training to improve aerobic qualities, keep the intensity low enough to prevent the on-set of muscle acidity. __________ So in essence by training smarter youre in fact training harder. So the good news is you dont have to leave yourself debilitated in a puddle of sweat every time you work out. The bad news is you may have to cancel your crossfit membership. My Muscle Building Tips _ Building muscle for me is harder than losing body fat. _ It takes consistency, time and good old fashioned hard work. _ 1. Get lean enough to start putting on muscle. There is no exact percentage, however the leaner you are the easier it will be to add tissue whilst keeping fat gain to a minimum. _ 2. Add calories in slowly. Put yourself into a slight surplus initially and assess each week. You don’t need to bump up calories too quickly too soon. Keep your body fat in check Via scales, images, measurements etc. _ 3. Get strong. Calories should be your reward for getting stronger in the gym. If you are increasing calories and not load in the gym you need to reassess. _ 4. Take care of your health. Something I’m guilty of in a muscle gaining phase is beating up my body and also not thinking too much about cardiovascular health. _ So remember this, you can’t train and gain muscle if youryinjured, you can’t train at maximal intensity if you blowing out your arse due to a lack of cardiovascular fitness. _ As many wiser and bigger guys than me have said “You can only Train as Hard as you Recover” _ 5. Keep at it. Be consistent for as long as you need to. It’s that boring and that simple, muscle takes longer to grow than fat does to go. So today I started GGS @thegirlsgonestrong #getresults #getstrong Phase 2 Workout A. The pull-ups and piston squat were not in the program but I felt to do them. 🤷 Unfortunately I used my laptop to film and then realized that Instagram does not upload on the computer. Grrr. So I sent them to my Drive to put on my phone only to discover that the type of file isnt accepted in Instagram (I used Macs Photo Booth). Double grrr. So Im left with screenshots. Anyways, Im really excited with my pull-ups progress. It was only about 2.5 weeks ago that I was using the resistance band! @_coach_karen_ Please notice my different grips lol (I did under/ over, over/under, underhand). I did about 6-7 pull-ups today with about 30 sec - 1 min rest inbetween. And the piston squats? Lol Ive never done before but was inspired by some done by Jessica Biel that were awesome. I noticed that I kinda did it on my right leg, but oh my goodness my left leg was not having it. Thats ok though, just another thing to add to my bucket list. I realized that I REALLY need to get heavier dumbbells (Im feeling strong 🏋) and but I should check in with my pelvic floor pt before doing so. Gotta be wise about this. Tidbits about this workout: my son woke up as soon as I started 😐 so I had to feed him lol, there is a baby on the potty right behind my leg in the single-leg Romanian deadlift, and my eldest daughter woke up towards the very end. Almost didnt think Id finish the session.

How many times do you think “I want to start working out” or “I want to start my own biz”, get really excited about it, and then after 20 minutes of thinking it seems unfeasible..... Welcome to the number one reason we chicken out. We think too much. We consistently self sabotage to “protect ourself” from the unknown. We care more about other people’s opinions than our own happiness and freedom. Listen, I was so so DEEP into believing that I could never change. That I would always have to wake up wanting to be different. That I would never get “lucky”. That I just didn’t have what it takes to become a successful person. That I will literally always let myself down. I am here to show you that there are other options. You can turn it around. You CAN follow through. You CAN commit to something even though you have no record of doing so. You CAN build your own business, have a family and work full time. You CAN lose weight in a healthy way. You CAN have everything you daydream about. You CAN become he very best version of you. The only way is to start. There will be work. There will be uncertainty (the dream killer), there will be times you doubt yourself because you’ve never gotten to a certain point before. But you have to choose your hard. It’s just as hard to wake up every day wishing you had a different life, as it is to wake up everyday working towards that life.
