There are two types of heat exhaustion: * Water depletion. Signs include excessive thirst, weakness, headache, and loss of consciousness. * Salt depletion. Signs include nausea and vomiting, muscle cramps, and dizziness. Although heat exhaustion isnt as serious as heat stroke, it isnt something to be taken lightly. A scientist-friend has published a piece in the NYT that warns us about the potentially deadly combination of high heat and humidity, which models predict are more likely to occur as the climate continues to warm. These extreme conditions could threaten even healthy adults - and even moreso the elderly or infirmed - with death by overheating because our own sweating wont sufficintly cool our bodies. The challenge of running in Central America- If you run before the sun comes up you will get eaten alive by mosquitos. If you run when the sun is up you’ll burn and face heat exhaustion. I learned there was a very small window in the morning between the mosquitos and the sun. I was able to get in 6miles. April and May were tough months for me, getting heat exhaustion 3 times. Once doing a Spartan Race, once doing a Savage Race, and once doing MURPH solo. Today was my first time to go for a run outdoors since then, and it was euphoric. Clocked in 5 miles at an easy pace. It’s good to be back on the road.

I have had two heat exhaustion’s this summer riding my bike...because of a wake up call it has given me I have really cut back on being on my bike in the heat and sun.. I lucky have been able to keep up on my fitness though with my Netflix of fitness through the program I am an independent coach with.. my legs were strong today. I played it smart today and rode 42 miles instead of 60 and had my trusting husband with me to make sure I was ok.. I have fallen in love with my cooling towels.I had three of them with me today. One around my neck, one around my chest and one around my back and stomach.. In my favorite color... purple. So we started our move on Wednesday, after having the RV in the shop for a week. Sadly one of the things the mechanic couldn’t fix was the AC (did I mention we’re gonna be living in it full time? Just KMN) so after driving 4 hours the first day we were all in danger of heat stroke and had to stop for a hotel. Yesterday, same deal. Today woke up to day 3 of an excruciating migraine, tried to cut off the tip of my finger 🙄, and my SO suffering from the effects of heat exhaustion. Needless to say, we are taking a break from driving and spending a day in the hotel to reset our bodies.
