Dear Erin on the left, December 2016: . Dang girl, look at you! Grace isnt even 3 months old yet, and youve got your abs back! Good for you! And while Im really proud of your hard work, Im also here to put a little asterisk (*) next to that photo. Heres why: . In a few months you’ll forget a lot of little details that made this ab pic possible. Like, it’s the morning, so you haven’t eaten yet. You just ran 5 miles in a hot gym. You havent taken a sip of water since the run ended. You are flexing. Hard. Like really hard! You stood in this locker room and took the same photo about 67 times, trying the find the best angle and lighting so those abs look good. . You’ve got a lot of other circumstances that set you up for this. Your super convenient garage gym, complete with a rower and @roguefitness squat rack. Your Bosu Ball, currently camped out in the living room so you can knock out a set of sit-ups during commercials. Your deployed husband...which is, in fact, an advantage here because you’re only buying what you need to feed yourself so there arent any temptations in the house. Grace fell into a super predictable schedule, and you have free childcare and free gym access on base for when you need it. . I’m telling you this, because heres the thing you dont know right now: in 19 months, youll be here again. 2.5 months postpartum. Youll be transitioning jobs, parenting two kids, moving halfway across the country, and starting grad school. You wont have gym, or free daycare, or much of a schedule, and youll find yourself mindlessly snacking on Graces leftover grilled cheese pretty much daily. . Erin, just remember: When the time comes, DONT COMPARE YOURSELF TO THAT PICTURE ON THE LEFT. Your journey is so incredibly different this time around. You may not see abs, but thats okay. Instead, your heart has doubled in size. You are still strong. You are still capable. You are still kicking butt, and you love these two kids to the moon and back. THAT is what matters most, Mama. . First track day is officially in the books and it was a total success! I haven’t been on a track since early March so I was really nervous about this run, and I did forget how hard track days are, but I did enjoy it. It was fun seeing what kind of paces I could hit today since it’s been so long. The track is under construction so my plan was to be out of there by 6 to avoid any workers, but they apparently start much earlier than that. So it was a little awkward running around the track in a sports bra as the construction workers filtered in for the day. I’d like to say it’s cool, I’ll never see them again, but that’s not true. I’ll see them next week😂 Today’s run was a 2 mile warm up 8 x 600 u see a 7 minute pace, and a 2 mile cool down. I’ll post my splits in my story, because I’m pretty proud of them. I’m gonna be sore tomorrow!

“The hardest part of ending is starting again.” ~ Linkin Park . Track kicked my 🍑 today. Starting each set was harder than the last. And, it was track work done on the road because the track was locked when I needed to start my sets, which seemed harder today mentally. All my 600s were in range but man they felt a lot harder this week than last week. Hi. My names Leanne. And Im recovering from an eating disorder. Ive mentioned it before. This isnt something new. Ive struggled with it for a long time. Negative mindset, zero self confidence, body harm, depression...the list goes on and on. Id lost control of my mind. Id lost sight of who I was. The picture on the right is from about ten months ago. But it doesnt really matter the picture. You can see it in most from the past several years, up until the past couple of months. Theyre all the same. Bloated face. Tired eyes that have lost their light. Dead looking skin. Fake smile. And remembering how I felt that day too. It was orientation for my MBA program, and instead of being focused on meeting people, all I could think about was the spread of food laid out for us. Thoughts about food would literally consume me. No matter the time or place. To the point I would get so anxious my heart would start racing. My hands would get shaky. Until I could escape and be home by myself with food. Because I thought thats what I deserved. My eating disorder was my comfort. It was my friend. But what I didnt realize was how much it was destroying me. Inside and out. It wanted me to be alone. It wanted me to be ashamed. It wanted me dead. Pride, anxiety, fear, lots of shame...they all want me to stay silent. They want to keep me isolated. They want to control me. But Im done being controlled. Im done destroying myself. Some might think Im weak for ending up this way. Or pathetic. That its as easy as just stopping. That I should just eat like a normal person. Thats fine. I can control peoples thoughts about as much as I can control the weather. The point is maybe, just maybe, someone will see this and realize that recovery is possible. That hope does exist. No matter what your addiction might be. Recovery is the hardest thing Ive ever done. Its scary. But it is so SO worth it. I have a long way to go. Im not even close to facing the root of my problems. But Im slowly but surely recovering who I am. And thats a pretty beautiful thing. Im realizing that I matter. That I have a lot to give to this world. And so do you 💜

Branched out. Went back out, and no one bothered me. Senses were on high alert, but my run was relaxing and tiring all in one. Legs were definitely fatigued from the piled on miles that was yesterday’s tear-inducing speed work session (I refuse to say sesh even if all the cool kids are using it). But not feeling like I needed to stick so close to home was refreshing. The inclines along the way were a bit more challenging for these tired legs. Four years ago I was lost. Happy but not at peace. My immediate home was solid with my husband and two children. I was working on building relationships with folks who Ive struggled with. Family folks. I was so worried about making things work with the broken people around me that I hadnt stopped to work on me. Feeding myself for comfort. Having to give up my job a couple years prior was a blow to my identity. My head was a damn mess. My heart was still holding on to those days as a child that I could remember when my mother drove us hours to my grandparents. When the summer air was filled with blooms and cookout foods. Church on Sunday and seafood after. When my grandfather let me sit on the tractor and help mow the acres of land. When my grandmother helped me feed the Koi fish oatmeal. When bed time came too early and I slept on the cot, scared to death of missing all the fun that the adults staying up late playing cards were having. Now I can talk about it all and still feel that good feeling without feeling lost. I can hold it all close to my heart without feeling hurt. Its part of me. Its helped make me the woman and mother I am today. But few of us actually expect to win. - Now I’ve won a few races but I’ve lost a lot more. And I can tell you, the wins aren’t what keep me coming back. They aren’t what keep me putting in miles. They aren’t what keep me in the gym. And they definitely aren’t what put me in bed early on a Friday night. - Its the magic this sport brings to my day. It’s the life it breathes into my soul. After 2 weeks of trips with only 1 night at home in between, I’m finally back home and it feels so good. I celebrated by staying home all day and in pjs for most of it. I cooked. I ate some vegetables. I had fruit for snacks. I didn’t have a single drink other than water and nuun. It was a really fun couple of weeks, but some normalcy feels so right. . This most recent trip to San Antonio involved more non-running selfies than running ones. It was fun to spend my days at the pool and get dolled up in the evenings. I did run 3 of the mornings while I was there. I kept my focus on cadence and all were successful for that which I was especially excited about because it was so hilly where we were. After we got home last night I went out for 4 miles focused only on cadence and ran negative splits with a 179 average cadence. All of that was good and exciting. . Let’s talk about today now. My treadmill finally got repaired this morning after 2 months and works like new again! 🙌🏻 My treadmill is in the garage so there is nothing easier about running on it for me other than the fact I can get runs in while the kids are home. I ran at about noon, it was hot and I tried to focus on HR after only focusing on cadence for 2 weeks. Nothing was good about the 4 miles I ran today. I broke the run up in 2. My paces were 11:30-12:30 and I still couldn’t keep HR down. My cadence was like 160. It was awful all the way around and left me in tears. Bad days happen. Tomorrow is a new day. I will focus on effort and not HR when it’s in the 90s. . That’s my story. Happy Monday!

I LOVE dogs. 🐶 Big dogs, small dogs, old dogs, young dogs. HOWEVER, as much as I love dogs, I do NOT love having 1 dog, let alone 2, charge at me while I am out running. Part of being a good pet parent is not setting your dog up for a potential disaster, keep your dog on a leash, even for their own safety. Also, if you’re not going to observe your local leash laws, do NOT blame others by saying something like “it’s because you’re running” when your dog chases after someone. 🙄

Back to that double stroller life 😆 and I kinda like it. I love runs with my boys and listening to their funny conversations. Running into week 8 of marathon training! I’ve really been working on building confidence in myself and my running, but it’s a lot harder than I thought it would be. . I know that rest days are important, but I can’t help but feel like I’m losing fitness when I don’t run. I constantly feel like I need to be doing something or I’m not going to meet my goal. . I have to keep reminding myself that resting is ok and that I’m working really hard to train for a marathon. . This week rest is going to be even more important because I’m doing another triathlon on Saturday. I need to push the doubts out of my head and focus on doing my best this weekend!

This run was ROUGH 🙄 somehow I managed negative splits despite feeling like I was barely moving the entire time. I was super frustrated this entire run that it wasn’t going well and had to remind myself that I ran a race two days ago, ran my sixth day in a row, and ran after being at work for 12 hours, and that I should probably cut myself a break. Not all runs are gonna be great, but the mental toughness will be worth it in the long run. First run back from vacation paid off 🤑

I told @rickwarner.sn that I wouldnt have calves tomorrow - they worked so hard tonight, theyre definitely going to be cows come morning. #puns I cant find a listing of the preprogrammed workouts for my new treadmill, so I figured Id just test them all out and then write down the details. 🤷 Today I chose the first tempo app, shockingly named T1. Slow warm up, then walking (2.1/2.6 mph, depending) with an incline that increased every time it was 2.1, and stayed at about 6% for the 2.6 sections, and between those walks was a run (4.1 mph) at 2% for about 3 minutes. The average incline ended up being 5.2% over 35 minutes! I became a runner after I moved to Florida so we are in uncharted territory, hill-wise. Cant wait to play around with the speeds on that one soon! ...Now off to foam roll my cows 😉

Back from family vacay feeling sun-drunk and full hearted! 🤗💛 I skipped one training run, drank all the rosé, ate all the amazing food, and soaked up every ounce of sun and family that I could. I’m starting my 3rd week of @indymonumental training a little fluffy and dehydrated, but you know what—who cares?? Experiences will ALWAYS mean more to me than being spot-on healthy and having no extra fluff on me. ... I refuse to miss out on things or pass up a craft beer or have a salad instead of pasta in order to achieve some level of body/training perfection. I needed that run!!! @coachlongest I know today was scheduled rest, but I pinkie promise I kept it easy. 😂 I needed this run for my own mental sanity. This whole week I am a “tribe leader” at our vacation bible school. It is fun, but it’s safe to say I’m not used to having a group of 7-8 year olds all morning. Lol. So all my runs this week will be afternoon runs. Luckily that means I’m extra careful about my food during the day so that I don’t feel awful during my run. I felt heavy and slow today as I run out the food I ate over the last couple days of vacation and a long car ride home yesterday. We had such a wonderful time, though it is always nice to get back to your own bed and space. For those of you asking about Ms Health and Fitness @mshealthandfitness: 1. I need 1st to move on into the next round. I’m currently in 3rd! 2. I seem to be pretty far from 1st as I have received donations and many votes and can’t quite touch 2nd let alone 1st. 3. Warrior votes are donations made to the wounded warrior fund for building homes. For every dollar you donate - I receive a vote. For example: $10 = 10 votes. 4. My plan if I won was to take a chunk of the $$$ and donate it to BAYADA to kickstart a health and wellness program — now if I don’t win, that doesn’t mean I won’t find another way to make it happen .. 😉 5. The competition goes until August if I move on. 6. This competition has been an incredible experience for me and I am truly thankful for each and everyone of you. I have been following @ashley.horner for about 5 years. If you havent started following her, then maybe start now. She is a true #womenofiron #womanofiron She is attempting the impossible 50 #ironman #triathlon in 48 states (2 in Haiti) in 50 days and the only other person who I know did this is @ironcowboyjames . He is just as incredible !! Ashley is not only a fitness force to be reckoned with but a Humanitarian who gives back. I cant wait to follow her journey.
