I like to use closed chain drills to work on the upper extremity as I feel that it hits the entire upper quarter really well, and very efficiently. Thats not to say open chain is bad or not useful, but it shouldnt be 100% of your shoulder work. These closed chain shoulder drills incorporate some abdominal work as well during the transfers, as well as hitting the scapular muscles and rotator cuff. Start off in a straight arm push up position. The first set of variations is the easiest - alternate shoulder taps. Shift your weight on to one arm and tap the opposite shoulder. You can increase the challenge (and potentially help out your wrists) with DBs. Adding in static holds before the movement adds a layer of challenge to shoulder endurance as well. And finally to make it really hard, elevate the legs so you shift more body weight to the upper extremities. 1️⃣ Shoulder Taps 2️⃣ Static holds + push up 3️⃣ Elevated Shoulder taps + Static holds  4️⃣ Renegade Rows - 🔑  Give this a try if you want to challenge shoulder stability using bodyweight

In early October I was involved in an incident that resulted in me getting a concussion. Days of vertigo, dizziness, headaches, nausea, emotional mood swings (the list goes on...) turned into weeks. I was diagnosed by my GP with Post-Concussion Syndrome. 💔 . Since the incident, I haven’t been able to train, exercise, look at screens - my life has been me flat on my back listening to podcasts, sleeping and crying. It’s getting better now, but it’s been a hard ride. . I’m trying not to feel resentful towards the person who gave me this injury. It’s tough, because I’ve been rendered immobile, unable to work or train. BUT - things happen, and resentment will only hurt me. SO instead, I’d like to use my recovery to make people aware of brain/head injury and it’s effects 🙋🏽‍♀️. . ⭐️ I’m able to use my screen for short periods of time now, so look forward to some more posts about brain injury coming soon ☺️! . Improving your active range of motion for internal rotation of the hips. Again, the purpose is to achieve a 1:1 active to passive ratio in order to improve joint capacity and to gain strength and control over the new ranges. ⚪ 1. In the first video, I am using low level PAILs to open up my active ROM. To do so, first find your end range in internal rotation, then secure your foot in that position (I used a 50 lb dumbbell here). From there, you are driving your foot into the dumbbell via external rotation of the hip. Unlike PNF (proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation), we want to hold the contraction for longer and at a higher intensity so that the afferent signals reach all the way to your CNS (PNF only allows signals to reach the spinal cord, so no long-term benefits). Your CNS will give you about 10 to 15 degrees of new range for each contraction, although this only works up to about 3 times in one sitting. I did three 1-minute contractions at about 50% of my max effort. ⚪ 2. Once youve opened up a new range via isometrics, its time to add concentric movement. This can easily be achieved by adding a band around your ankles. Pretty straight forward here- you are just actively rotating your hip throughout the ENTIRE range that is now available to you. Keep your hand on the corresponding hip and look out for any compensation- your hip should not push up against your hand if you are purely rotating at the hip. ⚪ 3. Lastly, you can focus on building strength at the end range, where we know we are not as strong. There are many ways to achieve this, and the exercise in the 3rd video is just one example. Using the band, I am pulling my hip into maximum IR. From there, simply let go of the band and hold for time. You can start with 5 second holds at higher reps then work your way down to 1 or 2 reps of 20 second holds. The idea is to not let your foot drop at all once you let go of the band, which I clearly struggled to do here. ⚪ And that is how to improve internal rotation of your hips!
