After an emotional week I’ve been getting back to basics with my running. Hitting some hills and trails and not worrying about my pace. Sometimes we need to take a step back and assess why we do the things we are doing and work out if that really works for us. I have received some incredible love and support from my family, friends and @evolution.runners family this week and it has really touched my heart and I just wanted to let you all know I love you and have missed you this week x

At the @runnersworldmag Half & Festival this weekend. Kicked things off with a 3.8 mile trail race. I haven’t ran this fast since before Leadville 100 😳 Wasn’t sure how I would feel since I haven’t attempted anything close to a workout in about 8 weeks. Turns out, I enjoyed it so, so much! It’s fall, it’s sunny, the leaves are gorgeous, and I just went on my first run since my half marathon!! 🏃🏼‍♀️👏🏻🙌🏻 I am definitely glad that I took some time off because my ankles are still a little sore but it was so needed. It has been a week! Leaky pipe in Mini’s ceiling soaked half her room so it’s been plumbers, water damage crews, insurance adjusters, environmental testing and yay, asbestos! 😳🙈 It’ll be a few more weeks before her room has been abated and reconstructed so Mini’s stuff is strewn about in basically every room of the house which doesn’t... bother me... at all... 😬 #imsoocdimcdo I’m grateful it wasn’t worse and that her completely soaked carpet clued me into the problem before the ceiling caved in! But even more grateful for #runtherapy, because I needed it this week! 30 minute bike, 2.5 treadmill miles 🚴🏻‍♀️🏃🏻‍♀️ . P.S. Special shout out to @girl.gone.running for talking me off the ledge when I wanted to swan dive into a vat of ice cream after a friend unintentionally sent my self-esteem into a downward spiral. ❤️

I gotta keep it real: I had a tough mental health day. The reality of my staycation being almost over hit me, and the anxiety became overwhelming. So I put off my run in favor of some chill time, I silenced my phone and focused on me. When I finally got it together and got outside to run, I kept it suuuuuuper easy, focusing on my footsteps and my breath. I ended up feeling like a whole new version of me by the time I was done. I think the important thing to recognize with anxiety is that every episode is not the same. Luckily I’m experiencing a lot less anxiety than I have in the past, but sometimes running is NOT the answer. Today it helped, but this is not always the case. Knowing yourself and what works for you is the most important thing. And if running is not the answer, it’s ok ❤️.

Ready for @runnersworldmag #rwhalfandfestival 💪🏻 tomorrow! This race is so close to my heart because it opened the running door for me. It was the first race that I committed to, and it changed everything. I was so nervous, so doubtful, I felt like an imposter—but damn did I feel so incredibly accomplished when I crossed that 10k finish line! This was such a leap of faith, and it reignited the athlete in me. For anyone who doesn’t know, I swam for 10 years. Looking back, I was good. My event was the 100 yd butterfly, and I never broke the 1:04 barrier. The irony is that I never thought I was good, and I eventually let injury and negativity tear me down. I walked away from the water 9 years ago, and I haven’t put on goggles since. It’s a scar that goes deep, and that I’m only now starting to make peace with. Running has been part of that healing—no, running does heal me. It all started with a leap of faith & an incredible race. I am so grateful to be returning for my 3rd consecutive year! We used to run 7 miles together at a clip a couple times a week when she was in her prime years. She’s 10 now, has some arthritis and some cataracts, plus we live in Florida, so I don’t do as many miles with her as I used to. I sure do value our time together though! To be honest, I haven’t felt much like running since the @chimarathon . Physically my body has never felt better after a marathon. But mentally, I’m just not there. Recovery, in whatever capacity needed, is incredibly important and truly necessary. In time. . . . I sincerely appreciate everyone’s kind and touching words regarding the passing of my grandpa. 7 miles with the middle 5 @ tempo🏃🏼‍♀️Splits: 10:14, 7:52, 7:56, 7:45, 7:44, 7:37, 9:51. I went into this run telling myself, “I am strong and I can do this”, and you know what - it was an awesome run! I kept having to hold myself back and slow my pace (I have a 20 miler tomorrow so didn’t want to push it too much), and my thoughts were confident and positive. I’ve been working a lot lately on shifting my mentality and taking a BQ off of its pedestal. Of course, I am still chasing one but my thinking isn’t like, “Omg, BQ this, BQ that”. No no no. My mind is thinking, “I am a strong runner and I’ve made so much progress. I got this!” And with that thinking I had an awesome run and needed to hold myself back. I am excited to continue running with this mindset and see where it leads me👍🏼

People with a growth mindset believe they are constantly a work in progress. Everything I do isnt a determinant of who I am. Everything I do is an opportunity to build who I am. -Dr Bhrett McCabe . . I started this tempo run with heavy, stiff legs, which quickly had me thinking I wasnt going to finish what was planned for today. But these are the days we have to #keepshowingup. Where am I going to throw my energy? At the problems or my strengths? I could give up or I could push through and accept what happens after I give 💯 effort. If we dont practice now we wont have the tools ready for race day. Physiologically our muscles will tighten when we literally think about how tight how sore we feel. So I quickly did a few strides to get them turning over faster and to get my mind off how slow and tight I felt ➡️ how strong and fast 🤣 I can be. The evidence is mounting surrounding open mindsets, optimism and positive mindsets propelling us closer to success. I focused on where my mind led me, quickly changing negative thoughts into powerful, useful positive thoughts. It takes daily commitment to practice it, and Ill be the first to say I struggle from time to time. But not today. Afterall, it was the perfect morning, sunny and 40°ish, the kids were playing outside with Eddie, I am running in one of the biggest marathons in the world, and I CHOOSE to challenge myself doing something I really love. This is the life we are making for ourselves. I felt so content today. This is progress. I settled into a comfortably uncomfortable pace and finished 8 miles (743, 738, 732, 734, 732, 737, 733, 738). Let this be a reminder that its human nature to have some doubts, fears and insecurities. Surrender to the rigid identities and parameters we often force ourselves into. Change, growth and progress happens when we truely start believing in our strengths and capabilities, focusing on the positives and not giving power to the negative. Focus on all the new opportunities to create. Every day we train/work we make investments into our capabilities. Believe in yourself. You may be surprised by how much you can achieve.

I’ve added 15 medals to this holder within a year. Some half marathons, some 5ks, some 10ks, a quarter marathon, a trail race, some age group awards, and my very first 26.2. I am super proud of what I have accomplished in my running and I can’t wait to see where it has yet to take me. When you find something that love and are passionate about, work your @$$ off for it and don’t ever let it go.

Flashback to 2 years ago when I attended my first Super Saturday as a coach! I was a new coach in this picture, didn’t know much about the community or the benefit of attending a live event. I was just told I should go, I brought a friend and found a community I had been missing. I didn’t know that this event would lead to new friendships I didn’t know that one of these women I would eventually road trip with halfway across the country. 🚙 I didn’t know one of these women would cut my hair & encourage me to find my inner bada$$ 👊🏻 I didn’t know these women would be a great resource to bounce ideas off about my fitness coaching business with. ✍🏻 I didn’t know these women would continue to inspire me. 🙌🏻 More importantly I didn’t know this community would be a bright spot in my life that would always get encouraged and supported to reach for more. Day 28 of 5k everyday started off with 45 minutes of kickboxing in woodland park. Next came a quick banana snack followed by a chill adventure to find a new trail. One of the trails I found is called ‘Star Wars.’ It was meant to be. Sincerely, Danielle the Colo-Radden

I’m a mom on the run. Literally. Yes I chase the twins all day everyday, but I also run with them as much as I can. It’s no easy task pushing 100+lbs while running up and down hills, along sidewalks and trails. Plus two toddlers in a stroller wiggle a lot, they drop everything (often on purpose), they ask for more snacks than you can ever imagine, and they bicker. It’s challenging in every way. But they also often hold hands and sing me songs. They shout with joy every time we see a butterfly. We stop to look at waterfalls and streams. We count all the chipmunks or buses we see along the way. We wave to the garbage men when we pass them. And, my favorite, they giggle and shout “BUMP!” anytime we hit uneven terrain. Most of you know I stroller run, and probably assume I do it so I can keep up with my marathon training cycles. But honestly, I could squeeze all my runs in early before the twins wake up if I wanted to. Instead, I choose to stroller run. We are near Galveston, Texas for a 10k and stopped at a coffee shop near the water for breakfast. After finishing our breakfast we went to hang out by the water and met these amazing ladies. The one with the pink hair is in her 70s and was prepping for a triathlon on Sunday. She started doing triathlons in her 60s! She can also deadlift 95lbs like a boss! ⠀ ⠀ Her friend travels with her for moral support. Shes not into running but they walk together. Theyve been friends since high school! #sisterhood ⠀ ⠀ Apparently, they also want to learn the drums so Gary @gheimbauer @pow__music decided to give them a 3 minute body drum set lesson. ⠀ ⠀ Beautiful women! Friday night run, not usual for me. Saturday morning runs are my thing, but tomorrow it’s supposed to rain and we have a day full of soccer. Seasons. The seasons of life. There are so many. Some are filled with joy and happiness, while others are filled with challenges. I feel like I’m in a more challenging season right now. The struggle to balance rest with working long, emotionally draining hours has been so hard lately. Our days are so ridiculously jam packed. Getting the boys ready for school, dropping them off, going to work for 8-10 hours, coming home, doing homework, cleaning, cooking, and packing to do it all over again. You may not know this, but I’m a speech therapist. My speciality is in feeding and swallowing disorders. This means my days are filled with children with medically complex histories, parents who are in despair of how to support their children so they can thrive, talking with physicians, multidisciplinary meetings to develop the most appropriate plans of care, and more paperwork than I can keep up with. Then I come home. To this amazing and beautiful family. To my boys. My husband. And to work diligently to support our oldest to be academically successful and strong in his sense of self esteem. Y’all. I’m tired. I had originally hoped to run my first marathon in Indy. Then it changed to running a PR for the half marathon distance. Now, I’ll be happy to finish in under 2:00. I know there will be other races, other goals to reach for. But I’d be lying if there wasn’t some level of disappointment in myself. That I should have been able to manage it all. And then I am reminded. “To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” — Ecclesiastes Hold steadfast my friends, in whatever season you are in. Give yourself grace and be kind. There are lessons to be learned, strength to be gained, and many moments to be grateful for.

Thankful for 4 Friday miles. Lots of swirling wind again but no rain and shorts, folks, SHORTS! 🙌 I enjoyed sporting my new #tc10mile shirt, but I probably could have gotten away with a tank top! 😎 Amidst all of life stressors I almost always have an overwhelming sense of gratitude. It is my default setting. Running helps keep me centered. It is sacred time to practice gratitudes, wonder in awe at nature, brainstorm solutions, or catch up with running buddies. Double dose of races this weekend!! Ive participated in @imtdmm weekend since Ive moved to Des Moines and always enjoy their races! Going in this weekend with ZERO expectations of any PRs. Ive trained for the mileage of completing a half like I usually do but lately just been enjoying running more than training. I want to simply have fun. (If that makes any sense 😂). A race packet pickup with beer - YES PLEASE. Guys, my first in person race that I’ve organized is tomorrow. I’ve planned races with a committee of people before but this is my first race I’ve literally planned all by myself. I am so overwhelmed and excited just like I would be if I was running a marathon. I can’t wait to see how everything unfolds. I’ve been planning this race since April and after having my kiddos 15 months apart, it definitely wasn’t easy but I can tell it’s already so worth it. Love this running community for supporting me and constantly pushing me to be better as a person, runner, race director, mom, and more. Happy running, friends! Cheers!
