‘Happiness, not in another place but this place....not for another hour, but this hour....’😊👌 . . This photo is the exact lighting from when it was taken....with the sun making its descent as I ran this afternoon. I’m LOVING that I can run at 3:30pm in the middle of November and be in shorts and a vest! ☀️🧡 . I often get asked how I stay motivated and the honest answer is that I’m not always....sometimes my easy runs can feel like a chore - can’t deny it!🙊 But I recently started listening to podcasts during those easy miles and the time flies by and I learn so much. Not only am I getting the miles in, having a huge endorphin fix, looking after my health and fitness, working towards my goals, but I’m also expanding my mind and learning lots on a huge range of subjects....mainly around health, running, strength training, fuelling, injuries aa well as listening to fascinating people talk about their achievements and how they got there. I’m sick of feeling sorry for myself. I’m sick of my IT Band not cooperating with me. I’m already sick of the cold. You know what, I went out and did the damn thing tonight. Sure, it may have only been two miles and it was pretty slow, but I did it. When we try something new it feels scary and awkward and nerve wracking. What if it doesn’t work? What if I fail? What if it changes me? What if I succeed? What if what if what if! Day 611 of #1mileeveryday : The very first time I held forearm stand for any amount of time.... it was only a few seconds but it’s the first step to getting it for real 🤸🏻‍♀️although yoga is so much more than any pose, it is still exciting to work towards a pose and start to see progress.

Wore my 2015 Chicago Marathon jacket for some motivation today. It was this race that made me believe I have so much more potential. Marathons are not easy, but I finished on such a high, I wanted more. •••••••• Then I got pregnant (unexpectedly), and was side lined from running halfway through my pregnancy. Coming back, I felt like throwing up running my first mile postpartum. I was at peace with never being a fast(er) long distance runner. •••••••• 20 months postpartum, I FINALLY felt like myself again; physically, mentally, and as a runner. I was ready to chase my BQ dream! I hired Coach @katyhaytay and haven’t looked back since. •••••••• All it takes is that one moment to spark a fire. It’s hard work to stay motivated and consistent but if you want it bad enough, you’ll keep chasing! •••••••• I’m thankful for the curveball God threw at us, our daughter is such a blessing. The best part, I have two of the best cheerleaders when I do cross that Boston finish line one day soon! 💛🦄💙

Good Enough Pt. 2 —————— What if I run/walk the 11k? The seed had been planted on a smoky August morning spent climbing all over Sac and Hard Scrabble getting lost in the delight and challenge of what I’ve since learned is an actual thing: power hiking. My Sunday long runs currently replaced with run/hikes that were mostly the latter. On the steepest uphills I hiked with a feverish passion, racing myself, proving to myself I was still capable, but just what I wanted to be capable of I’m not sure I knew. What if I just walk/ran the 11k? I’m signed up. I’m been hiking a lot of vert. It could be fun? I’ve already paid. And I have not touched a race since the first week of January. It might just be nice to be out there again. Performance doesn’t mean anything nor is it the point. A few days before race day I’d mentally committed to showing up Sunday morning but I was afraid to say it out loud. I lay on the black leather massage table as Jess worked out the remains of  a hip impingement from late July. I casually mentioned I was considering run/walking the 11k. She was signed up too. Without missing a beat, she said, You should. You’re definitely in good enough shape. And it will just be so fun. I felt anything but in shape. I was afraid to toe the line on Sunday because I did not feel like an athlete. I had never walked in a race yet. I felt like an impostor. I was undertrained and my shape had literally changed in the course of this rebuilding and re-breaking year. I actually felt embarrassed in my own skin. I did not look like the lithe runner of years past. Deep inside this gnawing voice I’d been trying to let go persisted. He said, You are not good enough.’ A very small part of me still wondered if these injuries and the shifting weight of my body were my fault, an outward sign of an inner deficiency. Was the path to healing I’d chosen the wrong one, the lesser one? Another voice that had been gaining strength in the last few months asked: Is Jess right? And even if she isn’t don’t you just want to try?

The best thing about running is that when you’re ready, it will still be there waiting for you. . A week and a half ago I ran the @indymonumental half marathon as my first race postpartum with baby 3. It wasn’t my fastest, it wasn’t my slowest, and it actually tied another half marathon I ran 4 years ago, down to the second! I ran this race with no real training and having only run a handful of runs since I got pregnant back in June 2017. The desire and motivation had been lacking, which has been a trend for me until I’m done nursing. Indy put a little bit of that spark back into my heart and I think I’ve run more in the last week and a half than I did the 17 months prior! . Thanks for waiting around for me, running, I’ve missed you.

GOLDILOCKS 🏃🏽‍♀️ Clearly I should have gotten pink shiny running shoes sooner. Or maybe I should turn off my headphones more often (they died after mile 1). This morning I ran a blissful 5 miles with negative splits, including two 9:37 min miles. Just wow. Very satisfying after DNFing a marathon recently and taking some purposeful time off training. Something is clearly working, though I’m not sure what. I’ll keep up all this foam rolling, strength training, and cross training stuff and see where I get. Took my portable “workout class” to the GYM. Last time I did my workout outside I struggled big time from the air quality not being the greatest. After 3 days rest and nearly 10 hours sleep last night, I’m feeling much better. I’m under a lot of pressure at work right now, and have been working longer hours, plus 2 a day workouts, and not taking time to really recuperate on the weekends like I should. I intended to workout last night, but I was so exhausted that I just couldn’t bring myself to go run and, you know what? I actually feel much better today. If that’s making excuses, I think I’m ok with it. I’m not good about stepping back when I need to, or knowing when to push and when to not, because I always feel guilty and like I should be able to accomplish my goals. However, last year, I spent 6 weeks sick because I kept pushing and don’t want to make that same mistake those year. So I rested and am feeling much better. 4 miles on the treadmill in less than 40 minutes plus leg day. Air quality is bad due to the Paradise fires, but I can’t really complain. I’m thankful that I’m safe and far from fire danger zones

They can move from 4cm (if your an A cup) up to a whopping 14cm for a G cup. Okay, so last night in a half asleep moment of FOMO🤦🏼‍♀️ I signed up for my first race of 2019...the @runvancanada first half on February 10th😬 • Last year I struggled HARD training through the winter for this race...with flu bugs and family emergencies, I was really dreading toeing the line when race day came😕 BUT it turned out to be a really good mental test and I know I was better for having done it💪🏼 So this year, even though I was soooo reluctant to sign up {it literally took everyone I know signing up before me🙈}, I bit the bullet, gave into FOMO and registered🤷🏼‍♀️ • But even though there’s now a race on my calendar, my plan for the rest of this year isn’t changing...unstructured running, preferably with this little monkey☝🏼hot on my heels and cross training💪🏼 because right now it’s all about that base🎉 Have you signed up for anything in 2019 yet??? • Today was an easy 10km on these trails☝🏼but this pic is from a much dryer, less muddy day😉 #trailrunning #runvan #WeWhoRun

Today was my first day running knowing I’m doing a marathon in 60 days... 15 miles is a warmup for 26.2. Usually I’m running knowing my race is 13.1, which makes a 15mile run 2 miles of pure bonus. These colder months keep me inside most days. 🏠 When I had my daycare in our home, there were times I wouldn’t leave the house for 3 or 4 days. 😳 If we didn’t need groceries or I didn’t get invited out with friends (I declined many times because of the cold!), I wasn’t going out! So after a great chat w Chris at @xtramilerunning last night, he thinks I may be experiencing some issues with switching to a zero drop shoe in the @altrarunning and need to just transition it with my other shoes over the next few weeks, working it in, etc. . Now Im not doing super high mileage anyway. Working up to a 10k, but only have been doing 5k regularly. So, most of my runs are little compared to most people. How do I transition? . Well, in true Ravenclaw fashion, I researched (loving @therunexperience videos!) and decided Id start today w wearing the Altras on my warmup today and then change into my trusty Mizunos. . And it actually worked! Felt a little silly changing, but I feel good. So, Ill do that on my next several runs, slowly lengthening the time until I change pairs. Plus do some exercises to strengthen the muscles. And see how it goes.

🗻 Hill workout on the tread today with @nikerunning and my legs are FEELING IT!!🗻 . . A little birdy told me that I might experience some rolling hills in Memphis 🙄 I gotta prepare for those in order to PR‼️ . . Intervals of 10k pace, 5k pace, and 1 mile pace with incline all the way up to 10 💪 I felt strong and was keeping a pretty good pace through it all! . . I love the Nike Run guided runs because they keep you motivated throughout the workouts AND the playlists paired with the workouts are always on point 👌 . . I definitely encourage hill training once a week (Wednesday’s being my day) to prepare if there are any hills in the race you are training for! There are no musts in swimming. I leave it open ended so that Ill keep coming back. 🏊🏻‍♀️ Swimming is one of those serious love-hate relationships. 6 miles in real feel 6°! Today was my first cold run of the season. I can handle 20-30° weather, but when it starts to drop below that, it takes some adjusting. I took this run at a comfortable pace, letting my legs get used to the cold. I incorporated some tough hills & I’m glad I got outside. Race photos. Only 4 in total when you look up my bib number and they are all like this... unflattering and of me WALKING during my 30 seconds off. This is not a reason to quit running. This is not a reason to give up on races. This is me. This is what I really look like. Maybe not all of the time, but this picture is the truth. • I finished that damn race. I had an awesome day. Runstreak day 7️⃣8️⃣✔️. My little man really didn’t want to go to the gym today so we didn’t. We played a bunch of board games and then I did my run on the basement treadmill while he watched truck videos. I did an easy 3 but as you can tell from my shirt, I still managed to sweat 💦 quite a bit. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: I LOVE streaking! It gets me to get in some exercise and sweat time on many days when I might have otherwise not. I’m definitely not team no days off or team never stop grinding. But I do think it’s good to move your body everyday for your physical health AND your mental health! Happy hump day! Loving you just a little more before you aren’t little any more. • Trying very hard to really listen to the message of my current read, “Present Over Perfect”...because I don’t want to look back on these moments and wish I had appreciated them more. The laundry can wait, the house can be a little less clean and the dinners can be a little less thought out, but I will never get this moment back. • So I am learning to slow down, love more, and worry less because life is short and way too precious to spend another second not enjoying it!
