Sometimes you have to face your struggles head on. Sometimes you can’t just “fuck it” and head off to Narnia (see last post) and forget about them. This is me. I am a severe asthmatic. Mostly, it’s under control. But as everything in life ... there are good days and bad days. I grew up believing I could do anything I wanted to and to never let anything stand in my way. Obviously, on days when I couldn’t breathe, things had to give a little. With that attitude, I rarely let on when I’m struggling, and just get on with things. Fake it to you make it, right? However, the last two weeks, my breathing has been on a slippery downhill slope, and I ultimately knew I would end up in hospital. I will do anything in my power to stay out of hospital, and sometimes I push it too far, and end up being really ill. What I’m trying to say is that no matter what life throws at you, sometimes you have to stand and fight and other times it’s ok to just give in. Last day 😭 Day 7️⃣ of #GetDownAndYoga is yogi’s choice! . We hear a lot about mindfulness these days - it’s about being in the moment, without judgment or criticism that you should be somewhere else or doing something else. It’s hard! So I’m so grateful that methods of movement like yoga and dance offer a moving meditation. That became apparent to me not long after getting into yoga. I took a couple of contemporary dance classes a few years ago, but I always felt awkward turtle in them, never truly graceful in my own mind, despite enjoying the movement. Combining the two modalities during this challenge gave me the confidence to e x p l o r e my body and flow with f e e l i n g more so than just following the alignment. Or milkin’ it as @happyfloweryoga would say! So thank you all for being wonderful role models! . For this flow, I was totally in my zone, moving mindfully, just me 😛 it wasn’t necessarily elegant, but is what I felt in the moment. Spinning like a little kid... A big grin and thank you to the hosts 🙏 they are so encouraging and beautiful, inside and out, I wish I could give them all hugs IRL! As a runner, I’ve primarily focused on my legs & lower body. Cross training has helped me to strengthen everything, but most noticeably to me, my upper body. I am slowly seeing changes & I like it! I always thought if I did too much weight training, I’d feel too bulky, but I don’t at all. I feel more cut, more defined, more toned. Exercise of any forms, whether if it is yoga, core, run, dance or even walk (recently read about forest bathing) is one of the most underrated ways to change your psychology, physiology and our emotional well being. | Scapular Stability Exercise | . . This exercise helps to activate the stabilizing muscles of the scapula, the serratus anterior and the traps. Along with the stabilizers this exercise helps strengthen the obliques and other parts of the kinetic chain . . When you drag the kettle bell through the movement, the serratus anterior works hard to stabilize on to the thoracic cage. While doing this exercise keep the core muscles tight to help limit trunk rotation.
