The tiniest skull in my collection, a mouse givien to me by a family member who raised them for snake food and gave me the ones who didnt make it to feeding time to practice on. I have the bottom jaw to this handsome man but its so tiny im afraid to glue it together. #skulls #skullsandbones #tinyskull #tinyskulls #itwasdeadwhenifoundit #itwasdeadwhenwemet #natureoddities #vultureculture

Found in the woods of NC under an abandoned car hood. Its shell was there too and looked like it had been chewed on by some animal. Cleaned his skull and glued together his shell. 🇨🇦 Dandelions always look nicer in someone elses yard 😁 Thats Quebec over there on the other side. The Gaspe Peninsula awaits! Bonjour, Quebecois!

🇨🇦 Officially known as the Tidal Bore. 🇨🇦 As I heard one local suggest, it lives up to its name! 😴 Basically, I sat here for 30 minutes and watched the river flow one way, stagnate and the flow the other way. Someone else said it can be a little more dramatic depending on the tides. Either way, it was a snoozer for me. So time to pack up early and head for the Gaspe Peninsula!

Taking a stroll around Moncton before heading down to see the reversing river. Yes, even miles inland, the Bay of Fundy has an effect on the rivers. Found this cool looking castle-like church. And discovered that in Moncton, I can just throw my hand out and dart into traffic! The street signs tell me so! 😉 Oh, Im supposed to look both ways, but cool to know I can be my own traffic signal and all shall obey my commands. 😂

One last shot from the Bay of Fundy, before my trek north begins. There is an expansive beach area to walk over. And youll see some very interesting rock formations and there is seaweed and sea plantlife everywhere. But its the variations of color like in this photo that make it feel almost other-worldly. When I was there, it was pretty quiet with very few tourists. I talked with the park rangers for so long, I kinda threw myself off-schedule. But it was great to learn such fascinating things about this intriguing area.

Not your typical beach, with its rust colored water. Not sure Id want to step into those muddy waters. And to know, in just a few hours this beach will be underwater. 😯 Nature showing its utter power, with grace and beauty.

🇨🇦 Where did all the water go? 🇨🇦 This is the same spot I showed yesterday, but at low tide. Look at the size of the people in the second picture to get an idea of how large an area this is and how many millions of gallons of water just disappeared in 12 hours! And the third picture shows the bear 🐻 close up. I call him the tidal bear. 😋 If youre planning on seeing this for yourself, there are websites that will tell you high and low tide times. It worked out great for me, as I got to see high tide in the late afternoon and low tide in the early morning. I stayed in nearby Moncton, where you can see the reversing river and magnetic hill - where you can put your car in neutral and roll uphill! I know, these crazy Canadian freaks of nature!

🇨🇦 First, what animal shape do you see out there in the rocks??? Second, this is a cliffhanger post! Yeah like those old Brady Bunch episodes, Bobby and Cindy get lost and everyones freaking out, yelling and waking up the other campers...queue concerning music) 😜 These pictures were taken during high tide. Tomorrow morning Ill show the exact same spot at low tide so you can see how much water pumps in and out of this area! Hint, its a lot! 😋 You can see by the rocks already that the water has been higher and has erroded away the rock below it.

🇨🇦 You know youre in Canada when you see a bronze moose! 🤠 Saint John, not to be confused with St. Johns, Newfoundland, is a pretty little town. It does have some interesting attractions. First, its the only town Ive been to where the city park is a graveyard. 😳👻 It is quite pleasant though with its rolling hills and shade trees. And second, its home to the Reversing Falls. Yes a waterfall that changes direction! Sounds impressive doesnt it. Your imagination sees this amazing transformation of one waterfall into another in a calamitous uproar. Nope! I took a picture of it (scroll to see) and I think it would be better served with a high tide / low tide comparison. Basically the tide comes in over hours and swallows the waterfall, until the tide is so high, it creates an opposite waterfall until the tide goes out. This is the effect from the Bay of Fundy. But if you show up, like I did, when the reversal happens, you basically see the water flow one way, ripple, and then roll in the opposite direction. Impressive, but not really camera worthy. 😉

Even though it is overcast this morning, I could tell this robin was half as light as he should be. I am wondering if he is leucistic. #robin #nature #natureoddities

. . Karst [ Carsismo] . . . << This is a slow process of chemical dissolution, which takes place on calcareous rock. The Karst process is the result of a complex reaction of phenomena that take place over the years in a three-phase system. A gassy phase, the air; a liquid phase, the water; and a solid phase, the rock. To summarise the process, the carbon dioxide in the air reacts with the water and when it reacts with the calcium carbonate (limestone) it turns it into calcium bicarbonate, which is soluble in water. When the water and part of the previously dissolved material settle in the form of calcitic concretions, stalactites and stalagmites form. The Karst phenomenon takes place and evolves mainly due to the nature of the rock and the chemism of the circulating water, but there are many other factors, such as cracking of the rocky masses and the climate, which influence the intensity of the Karst phenomenon and the beginning of the underground or surface morphology. >> . . #cave #karstphenomena #witchslair #natureoddities #rocks #science #geology #calcareousrocks #rockymountain #nature #karsthole #snow #phenomenon #karst #naturelover #winter #mountains #hiking #montilepini

Found the strangest thing in the garden. A white rose. Growing from the bottom of a red rose bush. This rose bush has been growing for over 20 years and has only ever had deep red flowers. Im sure theres a reasonable explanation, but Im calling it spring magic.

This is the coolest thing! There is a maple tree growing out of the...(Im trying to think of another word besides crotch, because that gets a little out of hand, and the only other word I can think of is cleavage. That wont help.) ...MIDDLE CLEFT of this flowering plum. I pulled on it. Its fused into the trunk of the other. Its a tree thats actually rooted into another species. Its a parasite maple.
