MO MOBILITY 💪🏻 • Mo needs mo mobility! As I’ve been rehabbing my shoulder injury, I’ve learned that my shoulder and back mobility is lacking. Like it’s BAAAD! So, in therapy I’ve been doing mobility exercises to help stretch my shoulders and back. This exercise is called ‘thoracic windmill’. I show two different ways of doing it. So Ive officially registered for @burleystrength s novice powerlifting comp in Canberra on the 17th of February! 🎉 Two days after my 24th birthday 😊 A few months ago I set a goal to do one of these and its actually happening in just over 2 months time! Im doing it to try something new, to challenge myself and to enjoy a competitive sport again for the first time in a long time. BEST WAYS TO MANAGE STRESS. - Here are a few of my current holy smokes, I feel better stress relief methods that are cheap and easy and offer immediate returns. - 1) Purge your social media feed. You dont have to give everyone your attention, much less consider their opinion. Negative-energy people are always gonna being negative — dont let them pollute your headspace. - 2) Reconsider your background noise. Familiar music could be good. Cable news could be bad. - 3) Deep breathing. You dont have to do this all day. Or even that long. But just a minute or two every few hours can have a noticeable effect. Dont overcomplicate it. - 4) Disable as many notifications on your phone (computer) as possible. Just keep the ones that help you stay on top of your day and minimize overwhelm. - 5) Steady state cardio. Hugely underrated for lowering physiological stress. - Stress is a necessary part of life but should never get out hand. So take ownership and manage it before it manages the joy right out of you. Today’s video is a continuation from a previous post, but also explains the importance of allowing your body too rest before exercising again 👇🏽 I say this because I’ve had a history of lower back problems, which in the past had caused me a lot of pain especially when incorrectly doing exercises that can put a tremendous amount of pressure on your lower back and spinal area , for example : deadlifts! 👇🏽 Over time and especially since becoming a PT, I’ve focused a lot more on mobility and muscle activation to make sure I carry out every exercise with a lower risk, especially when lifting heavy 👇🏽 Although I put my hand up and say I had a horrible lift around 4 weeks ago, which caused my back to become really tight 👇🏽 Instead of resting , and allowing my back to fully recover I continued to push until it got to the point I felt uncomfortable to even walk up and downstairs 👇🏽 I decided to actively rest for two weeks, keeping low impact cardio such as spinning in my program, avoiding any resistance or explosive training, whilst continuing to stretch daily to increase the blood flow and speed up recovery 👇🏽 I’m now back to training, but have adapted my training accordingly. I am SO pleased with my client Natalie’s progress since she’s started a resistance training programme with me. 8 weeks in and she’s lost 1 inch of her waistline and 2 inches off her hips!! As you can see from the photos, (left before starting lifting, right is today) she is looking much ‘tighter’ all over, her shoulder caps are starting to develop and she’s pulling in nicely on her waistline and has visibly dropped body fat and her posture is much improved. She’s also much stronger and is progressively lifting more or hitting more repetitions each week!! ASSISTED PULL-UPS (Back Exercise). TIPS: A narrow, neutral grip (hands facing each other) will be easier and work the the mid-back. A wide grip will be harder and hits the lats hard. Pull yourself up and Hold for 1-2 seconds and then Slowly release to full arm extension. Repeat for the required number of reps. Aim for atleast 10! Rest 1 minute and repeat! Water forms the basis for all fluids in the body, such as blood and digestive juices, and its the catalyst in all metabolic functions throughout the body. Water removes toxins and waste products from the body, and it carries nutrients to the cells of the body. Your body is dynamic and always changing, and this is especially true with regard to water in your body. You lose water routinely when your body performs normal functions such as breathing, sweating and eliminating waste. In a typical day, you need to consume a substantial amount of water to replace this routine loss. Dehydration occurs when the amount of water leaving your body is greater than the amount being taken in. Severe dehydration can cause symptoms such as extreme thirst, lack of sweating, rapid heartbeat and delirium, and it can be life threatening. But most people who experience dehydration experience mild to moderate dehydration. Here are the effects of dehydration at a mild to moderate level: •Fatigue •Muscle weakness •Poor concentration •Headaches •Dizziness or lightheadedness •Decreased metabolism Many people who suffer from one or more of these ailments have no idea that dehydration is the cause, and that getting relief is as simple as consuming more water. Water is the best type of fluid to drink to stay well hydrated because water is processed by the body differently than other types of fluids. So how much water should you drink to avoid dehydration and stay healthy? Eight 8-ounce glasses of water a day is a commonly quoted amount, but this is just a general rule.
