This evening I found an old YouTube video from November 2016. This was the video where I first said I was going to reduce my red meat intake for the planet. (You can watch a snippet on my instagram stories!) 👌🏼 It was after watching a documentary called Before The Flood and I explicitly said in the video that I would never go vegetarian or vegan. Little did I know that was a start of a two year journey to where I am now, a plant based eater 🌱 Throughout those two years I took it slow. I made an effort to learn more about where my food came from, I avoided labels and I just made choices which reflected my knowledge and ethos in that moment. It took time, 2 whole years of growth, but I’ve ended up living a lifestyle which brings me more joy than any I have lived before. A lifestyle which truly aligns with my beliefs 🙏🏼 So I encourage you to take the pressure off, avoid the labels and take the first step. La più grande minaccia è rappresentata dallintensificazione delle coltivazioni: il 74% dei pennuti a rischio rischia di scomparire per lespansione dei campi agricoli, che oggi occupano sei volte più spazio rispetto a 300 anni fa. Dal 1700 ad oggi, le aree convertite allagricoltura sono passate dal 6% al 38% del totale. Le nostre mutate abitudini di consumo, con una dieta sempre più ricca di carne, aumentano la necessità di coltivazioni destinate allalimentazione del bestiame. Ai tropici, intanto, cresce la domanda di terre da adibire alla coltivazione di piante di caffè, di cacao, di canna da zucchero e di palme da olio.  La perdita dellhabitat dovuta al disboscamento e al prosciugamento delle paludi prima, e alla presenza umana poi, sta decimando specie un tempo abbondanti, come la tortora comune (Streptopelia turtur) in Europa, o il pappagallo cinerino (Psittacus erithacus) in Africa. Anche zigoli (uccelli dellordine dei passeriformi), allodole e pavoncelle risentono in particolar modo di queste minacce. Unaltra attività umana, la caccia, sta mettendo sotto pressione 517 specie già a rischio estinzione, come lo zigolo dal collare (Emberiza aureola), che è passato dalla categoria minor preoccupazione a in pericolo critico in soli 15 anni. Dinner tonight - veggie bolognese inspired by a friend! I used a base of mushrooms, carrots and onion, added lentils, loads of tomatoes, homemade pesto, broccoli and fresh basil. It looked almost like meat and tasted great - and the kids actually loved it and didn’t just eat the pasta or try to hide the sauce in the bin or give it to the dog. The 11 year old had 2 servings - in his own words “this is good stuff”! Makes up for the other 75 dinners they’ve all complained about 🙄. #nevergiveup A little tip - blending your veggies prior to cooking gives it a more meaty texture!

We have been able to reduce our meat consuming significantly this autumn,and about 95% of the meat we do eat is moose. I know it would be better not to eat meat at all but still, this is shift to right direction and Im happy with this for now, for my husband is a hunter and will never give up on it. At least mooses have a pretty nice life living free in forests and they probably dont affect too negatively on environment. (1) Speaking to those people who dont get sustainability by speaking *their* language rather than ramming it down their throat in a self righteous way. Everyone thinks they are right, so youd just be at loggerheads unless you become less preachy (@khandiz from @untaintedmag) . (2) The fact that we should use whatever means possible to educate ourselves and make changes in a personal level because if we wait for the government to do something, itll be too late. (From @telltalefood) . (3) When taking about how Brexit will increase food prices, it was noted that perhaps this will encourage people to use and purchase more sustainably? If food costs more, people will be encouraged to use the whole chicken for example, not throw away your last few mushrooms or the root of the celery. People will be wiser. (@telltalefood) . (4) everything has a flipside. For example, using paper bags are better for the environment, but they take more energy to produce. Or helping local businesses in developing countries to make a living by weaving rugs may mean buying cheaper and less eco friendly dyes to make it financially sustainable for them to live. So its hard to say categorically what is better for the planet. So pick something and believe in it. As long as youre making a conscious decision to live better and more sustainably, thats good. You cant win everything! . Super Easy Vegan Apple Crumble . .Peel and slice 8-10 apples and put them at the bottom of a baking shape. . .Sprinkle 1 tbsp of canella and 1/2 cup of sugar on top of the apples. Pour evently 1/2 cup of water on top of the apples. . .Crumble : 1 cup of oat mixed with 1 cup of brown sugar, 1 tbsp of flour, 1 tbsp of baking powder and 1 tsp of bakingsoda. Add 1/2 cup of melted vegan margarina and mix until the mixture is wet. Couscous Marocain Vegan. . .1 sweet onion, 4 big carrots, 1 big zucchini, 1 turnip, 1 big sweet potato, 2 tbsp of ginger, 4 cloves of garlic, 1 cup of cabbage and 2 tbsp of tomato paste, 2 1/2 cups of vegetable broth, 1 1/2 cup of cooked chickpeas. . .Spices : turmeric, cinamon, curry, coriander, little bit of cayen pepper or 2 tbsp of sambal oalek. . .Simmer for an hour or so. Chickpea Vegan Tikka Masala. One pot easy and quick receipe. . . .in 2 tbsp of olive oil add 1 diced onion and let it cook on low fire until transparent. Add two minced garlic and 1 tbsp of grated ginger. New calculations show that up to 90% of our reefs could die by 2030 if we make no change to how we are living. This is with only a 1.5 degree rise in temperatures. If we dont act now, these precious ecosystems may completely collapse within the next decade or two. Carbon emissions MUST drastically decrease in order to prevent this. Coal used for energy may need to reduce by 78% percent by 2030 to save the reefs. Doesnt look like our governments are making any large scale changes, so WE need to make a change. Step up, reduce electricity use, reduce meat consumption (a bigger contributor to emissions than all transport combined), take public transport/carpool/bike/walk, reuse and recycle, spread the word. Quick & easy to make . . .1 cup on uncooked quinoa that you have to cook before adding to the salad (I cook mine with a little bit of vegetable broth), 1 1/2 cup of rinsed chickpeas, 3/4 of a medium red onion diced, 1 cup of sliced spinach, 1 medium red bellpepper diced, 1 medium cucumber diced, a bit of green bellpepper diced. Vegan Pouding Chômeur with extra sauce for all the Canada lovers out there. The dessert is a speciality from the province of Quebec and it is delicious. . .Sauce : 1cup of maple syrup, 1 cup of boiling water, 1 cup of cassonade and 1/4 cup of vegetal margarina or butter. Whisk all together in a pot until it boils. . .Cake : 1 1/2 cup of flour, 2 tea spoons of baking powder, 1/4 of vegetal butter, 1 cup of brown sugar and 1 cup of plant based milk (I used unflavored soya milk). . .Preheat oven at 325F° . Later on, you will bake the cake 45 minutes. . .in a bowl, mix the butter and the brown sugar together until smooth. Then, add the milk and the flour litlle by little and make sure that you mix the cake well before adding more. . .You are now ready to pour evenly the cake mix into a 13x9 baking shape. Then, gently pour the sauce on the cake with the help of the back of a spoon. The sauce should stay on top of the cake. DO NOT MIX. Later on, while baking, the sauce and the cake will inverse positions. Around the corner from the bison exhibit at the zoo there was a food shop that sold bison burgers. It seemed a bit ironic to think that the zoo was preserving the life of some bison but also supporting the consumption of others. - If you look closely at the sign, the Animal Care & Conservation Fund states that by purchasing prairie-fed, free-range bison meat instead of beef you are supporting the restoration of the bison and all the Great Plains inhabitants. It sounds like a good cause to support. However, language like: purchasing, instead, supporting, and restoration all conflict because they sway toward one specific opinion: eat bison, not beef. - In addition, I feel as though a message of this nature and coming from this particular source could be misleading to people of all ages because it encourages a demand for a specific market. - The bison population is nearly threatened which means they are not at a high risk for extinction. But if we can do something is try and learn from history. Since the first settlers arrived to the states the bison population went from 50 million, to a few hundred, and today about 500,000.
