Maybe I like compression socks so much because I look and feel like Im going out to play soccer 🤣 im pretty sure my neighbors think Im nuts. ahhh I do love running, but I sure do miss playing soccer. Workout Wednesday: 8.3 miles total, including 5 threshold stuck throughout [7:41; 7:36; 7:34; 7:47; 7:46]. That kicked my butt, but I wasnt too far off my numbers. Still tired and sore from Monday, but since Eddie had to go out of town, I had to get it done today. One of the biggest challenges this training cycle will be juggling the running schedule with a traveling husband. The traffic in Plymouth was heaving today but the good news is that it gave me a chance to catch up on @thinkfitpod. It’s been a tough few weeks and Ive lost my mojo. Sometimes life takes priority and there’s nothing you can do about it. But this weeks podcast on ‘Accepting that good things take time’ really hit home with me. Enjoying the now instead of looking where I want to be, accepting it will take time to get there, but the sooner I start the sooner I’ll meet my goals were just what I needed to give me the motivation to get moving again. Upper body and core work out tonight (which wouldn’t have happened otherwise). Nothing too big because I need to keep myself fresh for tomorrow relays, but a small workout is better than none. Hoje acordei cansada e com sono (sim, também me acontece 😴), e não tive energia para ir correr logo de manhã! Mas sem problema, decidi ir mais pelo fim da manhã, hora de almoço! 10km feitos, em que ganhei energia e boa disposição 💪 Só há um problema... Vou correr e começo a ter ideias ideias ideias para o @poete.na.linha, começo a ficar feliz e com um sorriso na cara que pareço uma miúda 😅😅 A prática de exercício físico não é de todo fácil, pelo menos, até fazer parte do dia-a-dia, e por isso mesmo, deixo-vos algumas dicas essenciais 👇 -Eu, sou eu: Lá porque existem pessoas que conseguem levantar muito peso, que conseguem correr imenso na passadeira ou fazem três aulas seguidas, não tem de fazer o mesmo. Primeiro que tudo, não tem de pensar nisso. Só ter começado a praticar exercício físico já é um passo, que o/a levará à mudança. Também gostava de correr muito rápido, mas não consigo… Qual é a solução? Trabalhar para isso. -Não queira fazer tudo de uma vez: Começar a ir 7x semana ao ginásio ou a fazer outro desporto quando não se fazia nada não me parece o mais adequado. Comece devagar para que seja um hábito para ficar na sua vida e no seu dia-a-dia. Por vezes queremos tudo ´para ontem´e começamos a exagerar em certas coisas. Depois resulta em quê? Acontece um imprevisto, como é normal, deixa de ir e já não vai mais. -Insista e persista: Não é de um dia para o outro que começa a ver resultados. Tem de continuar para começar a ver as diferenças no seu corpo, e assim sim, até ganha mais motivação. É também importante que tenha um plano de treino adaptado a si e aos objetivos que quer alcançar (ir para o ginásio fazer o que nos apetece parece-me que não é o mais adequado). Quando comecei a correr, odiava, mesmo! E pronto… as coisas foram mudando, porque realmente a energia e o bem estar com que me sentia depois de correr era demais!  Põe-te na linha! Rome wasnt built in a day, but they were laying bricks every hour. Rome is just the result, the bricks are the system. The system is greater than the goal. Focusing on your habits is more important than worrying about your outcomes. . . Never underestimate genuine hard work, attention to detail and perseverance in anything you are trying to achieve. Sure, no one will recognize or applaud you for every step or all of the little things along the way, but thats the only way to build your empire. You need those bricks. It doesnt happen overnight. Maybe you reach your goal, maybe you dont. Maybe you create some new ones. But you will most definitely learn a whole lot along the way. Isnt that the point? Trust the process. You will get where youre going. Just 4 easy (sweaty😰) recovery miles. ✨ SPANISH STYLE COD & CHIPS ✨ Weekday evening meals have become a bit of a chore (which is so annoying because I love cooking!) and we were stuck in a bit of a carb cycle of pasta on the regular... so we decided to bite the bullet last week and order our first @hellofreshuk box. Our first box arrived today and I have to say I was pleasantly surprised, love the concept. Tonight on the menu was Spanish style cod & chips - absolutely delicious and so quick and easy to make after a gym session. Anyone else tried @hellofreshuk ?

That was a big day training-wise. . An easy, pain-free run over lunch. Which, by the way, was nowhere near as tough as I thought it would be. I actually felt like I breezed round it. . Then after work, 20 minutes of strength and conditioning work. Easing back into core and glute strength. . Then a trip to the gym after dinner to make the most of the jacuzzi and sauna facilities. SO IT BEGINS! Today was W1D1 of training for the #tcsnycmarathon! Today called for a flex day of either 3 miles or cross-training. In the interest of being kind to my knee, I decided to hit up @flywheelsports for a morning spin session. Its just far enough that waking feels like it takes too long, so I usually run to class. And what a class it was. I unknowingly wandered into a class being taught by a Master Instructor (h/t @adamdwasserman) the SF studio was hosting. The energy was off the charts. I can only cross my fingers and hope that every day this training cycle will be half as fun as this morning was!

Marathon Fact #13: The treadmill originated as a prison torture machine. - It was used as recently as the late 19th century as a monotonous device to TAME errant prisoners - and simultaneously pump water or crush grain (see second photo). - Wheres MY grain crushing feature, @nordictrack ?! - Besides my inability to be super productive while on the treadmill, Ive also been less than happy with my attitude lately. - I have found myself resenting my running at times, and asking myself: if Im finding it tough now... what am I going to do when training gets harder?! - So, I took a look at my day, worked backwards and figured out a few ways that are at least worth TRYING, to improve my mood. - I wake up tired because I stayed up too late. I stayed up too late because I was catching up on eating and chores that I didnt get done during the day because I was too tired from staying up too late the night before. Can we call that a vicious cycle? - My solution might seem strange, but here it is: Eat more/better food. - I ignore nutrition a lot bc I dont like obsessing over it, but I need to face the music and realise that I need to fuel better. - This week I am committing to eating more/better during the day in hopes that I have more energy, am more productive (and tolerable/patient) and can get to bed at a healthier hour, and feel happier when I wake up in the morning. - Well see how it goes 🤞. - Todays run was a breath of fresh air - despite taking place in the basement. 2016 Highlights 🏆 . This was an amazing year for me. I took 5 minutes off my half marathon PB at Watford Half, completed my first marathon, then 3 weeks later ran a 10k PB at Bournemouth Bay. . Die Woche Ruhe tat gut und ich muss gestehen ich habe das Laufen gar kein bisschen vermisst. Das hatte ich noch nie seit ich regelmäßig laufe. Ich hatte nicht das Bedürfnis aber heute werde ich einfach eine kleine Runde mit laufen. Kommt gerne vorbei. Egal wie Fit du im Laufen bist. A great day. ☀️☀️🙌🏼2 miles outside on crazy heat, 10 on treadmill where I had my first long run of the season! It was amazing to see that despite being the first long run of the season, I’m faster than before! Whoa! Felt like I could run forever. Man I live endurance! 🌟 then my aunt & uncle (pictured) visited us!!! So happy! :)

-Never lose sight of your main goal- Starting a new week it can be tricky to get off on the right foot. A little planning can go along way. Im training for my next 100km in September being flexible has kept me rolling forwards so far. Im trying to juggle work, uni and training it can be hard!

Weekends in SF are for run touring. Todays target: the Presidio. I knew it was trail running, but Ive forgotten how painful hills are. I was definitely on the struggle bus for most of this run. It didnt help that some of the trails I picked became either pure sand or staircases. The views are something else, though! Training for #tcsnycmarathon starts TOMORROW, so this was my last run for the pure joy of it. Tomorrow morning, its rise and grind for either a 3-miler or cross-training.

Marathon Fact #12: Hippos sweat is actually RED. This blood-like substance apparently acts like sunblock and also has antibacterial properties. 🤓 - I didnt see any hippopotami this morning but I did have some pretty amazing views of #Ottawa 😍 - Good thing, because my run was 👎. - I had no energy, lots of guilt and not quite the number of miles I had hoped for. - As I ran I listened to an interview with the fantastic @tinamuir88, a former elite runner from the U.K. (@roguerunning podcast ep 82). - Muir discussed a lot of things that I related to, but what struck me most was the portion about nutrition/caloric deficit during training. - For some personal context, I spent many years (like, probably age 11-28) worrying, stressing and focusing on calories in vs calories out. I fantasized about being faced with the problem of NEEDING to eat more food. I couldnt imagine not feeling limited and being satisfied with my weight. - Fast forward to 3 kids later, its 2018, and Im living the dream. Only, its not QUITE as carefree as I imagined.🤔 - During my run this morning I felt weak and heavy with very low energy. I thought about what I had eaten yesterday and was shocked at how little it was compared with what I know I need to fuel my active (and also breastfeeding) body. - I got pretty frustrated with myself. I know I need food. I agree with the fact that restricting calories during marathon training is NOT a good idea. I didnt prioritize fueling and as a result it felt like I wasted what should have been a pretty awesome run.😔 - Overall I came out ok. I ran at the lower end of the prescribed time and got to about 17km though I had hoped to run 22km. - This week has been a big test in figuring out how to prioritize with three kids, summer life, marathon training and all that comes along with each of those things. - I am lucky, and grateful for all of it and I know that as long as I keep plugging along, I will figure out how to piece it all together *somewhat* smoothly. - I know you guys are all busy too... whats your biggest challenge with fitting it all in? Do you have a good handle on your nutrition? - 🏃‍♀️long run🏃‍♀️ 17km, 95 minutes

Running in the heat has been such a humbling experience, but Im so pleased I managed to get out to a flat part of the canal for a pain free run today. . Keeping it real, I had 5 miles on the plan today. About a mile and a half in, I knew I wasnt going to last in the heat so decided to take a mile off and slow down. .
