This morning, before I walked out of the house, I grabbed my inspire necklace. My favorite. Then realized I was was waiting for a very important email. I reached for my 26.2, a gift from @andiwondra and gave it a good luck kiss. I opened up my email 30 minutes later and learned that I will be running in the 42nd @chimarathon !!!!! My application was picked! I am sooooooo excited. Now to convince @djchazz22 to run it again too.

Finally broke down and bought one, moreso out of convenience because Office Depot sells it in the check out line. I was protesting its purchase because I think its bullshit I need to worry about my safety during what I consider my worship time. But I guess violence in ones place of worship *is* the norm nowadays. My biggest fear is not having to use it, but using it and spraying myself. 🙄

It’s Bust a move Monday! A another week to crush those goals! Today was about cardio, 2.13 mile run on the #treadmill followed by 20 mins on the #stairmaster .....which gave me right around 40 mins of cardio 🏃🏾‍♀️💪🏾🏋🏾‍♀️! The stair master always keep me rethinking my life decisions... but I got it ✅! Happy Monday!

18 tough miles this morning. My longest 🏃‍♀️ in almost a year! My legs were tired & sore. My mind told me to quit. I didn’t. . Marathon training is new for me. It is very much outside of my comfort zone. Which is why I do it. Nothing grows inside our comfort zone. . In 5 weeks I will run my 2nd marathon & 2nd Dopey Challenge. But it’s the first time I’ve been able to stick with a full training schedule. Last year I was injured & never ran more than 13 miles in my training. In fact, prior to running the Walt Disney World Marathon this past January, I had NEVER 🏃‍♀️ longer than 14 miles! Come race day, once I passed mile marker 14 everything was a brand new experience for me. I EARNED that 🏅 that day! . This year I am excited to see what I can do properly trained. As the miles have increased, I’ve had to really dig deep. It has become such a mental game. I hate it & love it at the same time! . 5 weeks to Dopey. One more really long training 🏃‍♀️ before then. Everything else in between seems easy. . 12/9/2018 | Half Marathon | 8:10 pace So this picture was definitely before my run. Why? Well, because I am actually genuinely smiling in this picture for two reasons. 1. My awesome bro (@zach_stanley) got me two things that I have been DYING to own, a foam roller and runner flask. 2. I was looking forward to this run. I was aiming to run this at goal MP, which should been no problem, but this run was HORRIBLE!! I was able to hold 7:55 pace through mile 8 and then it went downhill from there. I got so sick to my stomach, couldnt feel my hands or face, felt like I was dragging dead weights around (aka: my legs), still couldnt breathe through my nose. Ugggg! It was just the worst!! I ended up averaging an 8:20ish pace for miles 9-13. You guys, I have never been so happy to finish a run before. 12/8/2018 | 10k | @ subMP (7:45) Okay so this was a weird run. I started outside and oh man it was FREEZING!!! 19 degrees but felt like 12 with the wind chill (according to the weather app). My face was completely frozen and it hurt to breathe (probably didnt help that I have a stuffed nose 🤧), so I did a 5k outside (a sub 21min btw!!) and an easy 5k inside on the treadmill. Now off to do more Christmasy things!! Made me visible to the few cars I saw. . Had some jerk honk & yell at me to get off the road this morning. Perhaps if he took up running he’d be a happier person. Worked 7-3 today so didn’t have a chance to run this morning, but I was determined to get my 🏃‍♀️ in no matter how tired I was after being on my feet all day. . 12/6/2018 | 6 Miles I did something a little different this morning. Six rounds of 4 X .20M @ 7:30 with .05M walk recovery. 9 mile 🏃‍♀️ in the ☔️ . I always check my phone for the weather before I get out of bed so I know how to dress for my run. This morning it said rain & let’s be honest - I was being a wimp. I kept delaying my run thinking the rain would pass - I mean that’s what the weather app said. But i know better. In Phoenix if they say it won’t rain, it’s guaranteed to rain. I swear our weathermen are the worst at predicting the actual weather! . I finally decided to just suck it up & go run. I live in the desert - we don’t see much rain. I actually enjoy running in the rain. I threw on tights in case it decided to rain hard, grabbed a Nike half zip because I feel it gives me the most versatility in the rain & grabbed a cap. Normally I don’t like to run with a hat - it makes me hot. But when it rains, a good hat is my best defense. . I wasn’t even a mile in to my run when it began to sprinkle. But it true Phoenix fashion, it was spotty & I seemed to 🏃‍♀️ in & out of the rain. It would pick up for a bit, then stop again. That is until my last mile. My last mile the rain began to come down hard. I was incredibly grateful for my hat to keep the rain out of my eyes. And the hard rain made me pick up my pace so my last mile was my fastest mile. Boom! I’ll take it! . When I got home, I was soaked. My feet were sloshing in the water in my shoes & I was grateful to be done. I enjoy running in the rain, but I don’t enjoy the blisters it can cause on my feet. Luckily I was finished before blisters had a chance to arrive. . How do you feel about running in the rain? How bad do you want it? . I am a huge fan of setting BIG goals. I’m a believer if my dreams don’t scare me a little bit, they aren’t big enough. I think I’ve always been this way. And nothing makes me angrier than someone telling me I can’t do it. Either get on board with my dreams or get out of my way. . I know - that may make me a bit abnormal - but it’s who I am at my core. I learned a long time ago, small goals don’t excite me - they don’t push me nor encourage me to keep going. I do much better chasing a big, scary dream. I know that means it takes me longer to accomplish it - but it’s what drives me. I don’t get frustrated or discouraged when I miss that goal - instead my 🔥 burns even brighter to accomplish that goal. . Big dreams take hard work. Long, consistent hard work. And they often take lots of different kind of work. Right now I am chasing a sub 2 hour half which will then lead to a sub 4 hour full. I can’t just 🏃‍♀️ to reach this goal. I must cross train. And I must train my mind to push past the wall & keep going. I’m loving my ability training I’m doing currently because it causes me to think while doing the exercises yet move as fast as I can. It’s building my fast twitch muscles, my stamina & my mental toughness. All of this helps me 🏃‍♀️ faster, longer. . What kind of goals are you working on currently? So excited- my new Runner’s World Calendar arrived! . I’ve been buying this calendar every year for as long as I can remember. It hangs in my bedroom & I write every run & every workout on it once it’s completed. I also add all races as soon as I sign up & commit. I am such a visual person - I LOVE seeing my calendar fill up each month as I complete my training. . I snapped a pick of November so you can see the beauty of a good month. I will be honest, if I see more than one empty square on my calendar in a week, it bothers me. It motivates me to get out the door & run! . My calendar on my phone helps guide my days & of course I have my runs & cross training blocked on that calendar. But let’s be real - I can ignore my phone calendar pretty easily. But when I wake up & see that blank square on my calendar staring at me - encouraging me to run - it’s hard to ignore. . I’m curious - anyone else kick it old school with a wall calendar still? 10 slow, sometimes painful miles 🏃‍♀️ this morning. . This is how recovery week feels? How am I going to tackle 26.2 in 6 weeks? . Thoughts that ran through my head this morning while I struggled. But I took control of my thoughts & changed my words. I reminded myself why my runs this weekend had been hard & chose to see this as a reminder of the importance of proper nutrition. I reminded myself how far I have come in a decade of running. I reminded myself running is a roller coaster full of highs & lows & how I’m happy to hit my lows now - during training - instead of come race day. I reminded myself of my inner strength & dug deep. . My 🏃‍♀️ may have felt hard today, but never once did I think of cutting it short. I always knew I would complete the 10 miles scheduled. 12/2/2018 | Long Run | 16 Miles I am SO freaking happy about this!! Despite feeling like crap the ENTIRE time, I pushed through and FINISHED!! Longest mileage logged!! I kept the first 8 miles at an easy pace (8:20), the next 4 miles at goal MP (8:00), and the last 4 miles at sub-MP (7:40). The second half was a struggle but I DID IT!! 11/30/2018 | 8.3 Miles | 60 Minutes I was plagued with a nasty head cold on Wednesday. Fever. Aches. Congestion. The whole nine yards, so running has been out of the picture for the past 48 hours. Today I woke up feeling close to 80%, so probably against better judgement, I decided to go for another lunch break run. Cant say it felt great, but it got done. I dont feel drained, so I think I am turning a corner. Oh and 166 miles logged for the month of November. Not too shabby for a few days missed! Tomorrow is DECEMBER, people!! I got in!!!!! . Woke up this morning to a congratulatory email from the Berlin Marathon. I screamed with joy & startled my puppies!! . I’ve been kicking around the idea of upping my game to the marathon for awhile. I mean sure I ran the marathon at Disney World this past January as part of the Dopey Challenge, but could I run a legit marathon? Did I want to run a marathon? I LOVE running half marathons, but doubling that distance always seemed a bit daunting to me. Still - I’ve been intrigued by the idea. . I decided to put it in the hands of the universe. If I am going to become a legit marathoner, I want to run the World Majors. Something about Berlin really speaks to me, so I submitted my name for the lottery & left it in the hands of the running gods. . I guess the running gods want me to be a marathoner!! 1 mile time trial last night with my girls! . We actually had a great turnout, but the ones who push me & motivate me the most are in this pic. . My legs were tired from the 16 mile run yesterday & my calves were tight so I wasn’t sure how I would do. I told coach I’d be happy with an 8:30 mile. . We were timing ourselves & true to fashion, my Nike app wouldn’t start when everyone else did, which meant I was about a 1/4 lap behind everyone else. Hopefully soon I will upgrade my watch to Garmin again. I ran in lane 3 almost the entire time because I knew I would be lapped by faster runners at some point. This meant I hit my mile early. And because I started late, I ran mostly alone. . I still haven’t figured out the shorter distances & I went out too fast. The 2nd lap I had to slow down because I could not hold that pace for 4 laps. And I think I should have pushed it more my final lap - I had more gas in the tank but since I was in lane 3 I wasn’t sure when I’d hit my mile & I didn’t want to die before I crossed the finish line. Still learning. . Thankfully coach said we’d hold another time trial in January which made me happy! I now have my first mile time trial & can compete against that in January! . Do you get excited by new running shoes? 👟 Some girls love high heels. This girl loves her running shoes! I mean I seriously do a happy dance any time the mail gods bring me new shoes. I know - I’m a running nerd . 🤓 I always have 2 pairs of running shoes I swap between. I only wear them to run - until they hit about 250 miles. Yes - I track the miles 🏃‍♀️ in my shoes. I used to get more miles out of them - but with age, I’ve decided my feet really want that level 5 cushioning & that level of cushioning just doesn’t last as long. It’s ok - means I get new shoes more often! 🍻 Both of my current shoes hit 200 miles last week so I ordered these special edition NYC Marathon Brooks. Running New York is on my bucket list & these shoes were too adorable for me to pass up - so I ordered before they ran out. 🗽 Can’t wait til I hit 250 miles in my current shoes so I can retire them & move up to these babies!! 16 miles done! 6 weeks to the marathon & final race of Dopey. . My longest 🏃‍♀️ in training for Dopey this year was 13 miles due to injury. I wish I could tell you today’s 16 felt easy, but it didn’t. But you know what? 10 mile group run this morning. . Started out with a large group, but not everyone wanted to run 10 miles & the guys were definitely faster. And the guys didn’t stop for bathroom breaks. . Ran with my girls (just missing Jess in our after pic) & had a great time! It was cold at the start - colder than I expected, but running the miles with friends makes it so much more fun! . We ran an easy out & back. It’s funny how a 10:30/mile pace feels easy for me when I have friends to chat with, but when I’m on my own, that same pace feels harder. This definitely tells me I need to spend more time running with my girls than by myself. . 16 miles on the calendar for tomorrow - which will most likely be run solo. 4 mile run tonight just before the sun fell completely beneath the horizon. . Woke up at 4 am so I could leave the house by 5 to head to work. It was a very busy & successful 8 hour shift @ Lululemon but man was I tired when I got home! I admit - I was tempted to skip my run: . But I have goals & a training plan so after I ate & rested my feet for a bit, I changed clothes, drank my go juice & did my best to outrun the sun. . My run felt really good. 11/22/2018 | Black Friday | Tempo Run | 7 miles So first off, my day was definitely NOT spent running around Black Friday shopping!! It started off with a 7 mile tempo run. Mile 1 was a warm-up @ 8:20. Miles 2-6 were tempo miles @ marathon pace (supposed to be 7:50, ended up doing a 7:42 avg). Mile 7 was a cool-down @ 8:10. The rest of the day? 5k run this morning - solo in the neighborhood. . I contemplated signing up & running a local turkey trot since many of my friends had signed up, but I had to close last night @ Lululemon & wasn’t sure how late we’d be. Worked 3-midnight last night so turned out to be wise not to commit to a 🦃 trot. But that didn’t stop me from running a 5k later! . It was a beautiful, overcast morning & near perfect running conditions. Felt really good to run & I was able to negative split my run, with little effort. Took off 30 seconds each mile - I’ll take it! . Have to be at work at 5:45 am tomorrow for all the crazy Black Friday early shoppers but hoping I have enough energy at the end of the day to negative split my planned 4 mile run. . 5 am morning grind. I seriously felt like the tin man, needed a serious warm up! But got it ✅! Shoulders and I went heavy, 20# dB for the presses, extensions and bicep curls! Used a 40 # kb for deadlift high pulls! Happy Monday!

Becaus sometimes you’ve got to push harder! Jumping rope is a quick effective way to get the heart rate up with minimal space and equipment. Added some extra weight to my workout, 30 lb dB for the squats (oh my) and 35 lb kb for the weighting sit-ups! But the jumping rope and added weight, your girl was tired lol 💪🏾🏃🏾‍♀️🏋🏾‍♀️ Happy Sunday!

4 mile 🏃‍♀️ tonight. Plan was 7 - I was doing well to get in 4. . I was beat when I got home from Lulu last night so I intentionally did not set my alarm. I ran 8 miles yesterday morning, then walked another 6 miles around the store at work. When I did finally wake up this morning, I felt like I was coming down with a cold. . I took it easy today lounging around & took a mid day nap - trying to fight off the cold. It worked & around 4:30 I felt better. So I threw on shorts & a tank & headed out to run. . My Apple Watch was giving me grief. Couldn’t get my bose headphones to stay synched & Nike+ wasn’t accurately tracking my run. I finally gave in & went old school. . My goal was to finish before the sun set, but I wasn’t quite fast enough. Good thing I have street lights in my neighborhood! . Felt good to get a run in, even if it wasn’t perfect. And a shorter run is better than no 🏃‍♀️. . Does it stress you out when you fall off track with your training schedule? Do you smile when you run? . Did you know that smiling while you run can cause you to run faster? Yup - its scientifically proven. . In a recent study, runners were asked to smile, frown, reduce the stress in their face & upper body, or simply run as usual. Those who smiled were 2.8% more economical in their breathing than those frowning. That could be just the difference you need to achieve that PR. An added benefit, runners who smiled reported less of a perceived exertion when running than the frowning runners. Who doesnt want running to feel easier? . 11/16/2018 | 5 steady miles | 7:23 pace Happy FriYAY!! I did another lunch break run today. After spiking a small fever yesterday, I came really close to skipping this one. Maybe I should have, but I ALWAYS feel better after a run, so I went. Other than feeling a little sluggish, I had a great run. Nothing too crazy, I kept the cadence nice and steady, focused on my breathing and stride placement, and still averaged under a 7:30 mile 🤩!! Oh and still ZERO foot pain!! YAY!! 😄 8 miles scheduled for tomorrow and 10 miles on Sunday (9.3ish of those will be the Hot Chocolate 15k)!!
