Happy Monday!! Today I am throwing it back to an oldie but a goodie! Today we are talking relevé (or just calf raises for all my non-dancers) . ✋tag a friend to share the knowledge!! . Do you know where your weight should be centered for a relevé or a weighted calf raise? . Correct: your weight should be centered between the 2nd and 3rd toe, and all toes should remain in contact with the floor. And don’t forget about the 4th and 5th toe, you should still feel some pressure through these toes as well. If you were to draw a straight line on your leg, it should be straight from your shin, through the front of the ankle and down the middle of the foot. . Incorrect: many people center their weight primarily over the 1st toe and have no weight of the 4th and 5th toes. This causes a “winging ” position and dancers often to do it avoid sickling. -OR- you may be opposite and Put too much weight of the outside of the foot. . Why is doing it the wrong way so BAD? 1. Winging can puts too much pressure on the joints of the 1st toe and can lead to arthritis, overuse and a whole bunch of other bad stuff down the line 2. Causes imbalances between the inner and outer ankle muscles so one side gets over worked and the other side gets underworked. This can also lead to tendinitis down the line. 3. Higher risk of ankle sprains due to imbalances. Plus- It doesn’t feel good!! . It is important to pay attention to and correct lower body mechanics, especially with repetitive movements such as a relevé or heel raise. Especially if you are doing these weighted at the gym, the risks for injury are even higher. Not only does Correcting it prevent injury but it looks much prettier too 🤗 . White Bean Chili - Crock Pot Recipe: 3 Cans White Beans 2 Cans Rotel 2 Chicken Breast 1 Yellow Onion 1 Container of Chicken Broth (4 cups) 2 Bouillon Cubes I Can Green Chili Peppers To Taste: Garlic Onion Powder or Onion Flakes Paprika Cumin Oregano Salt Pepper Basil PINCH ONLY - Cayenne if you a little heat. What does “to taste” mean? It means until it tastes good! I usually sprinkle the seasoning back and forth across the top 4-5 times for the first round, if you are nervous to cook like this then just try 3 passes and add from there. I let the mixture cook for a couple of hours then taste. Smell your spices before putting them in, this will help you determine what taste you want to add or that you think is missing….if any. Let it cook on high in the crock pot for 3 hours, then pull the whole chicken breast out, put it on a cutting board and shred. Then add the beans. Stir together and let it warm for another 30 minutes. For the final serving, you can top it with a bit of Colby Jack (if you are into dairy) and a few tortilla chips. Little break from holiday spam... 4 weeks since dislocating my knee... I’ve made a lot of progress... and this holiday has done it the world of good! The sun, swimming and relaxing has meant that within days of being here I made huge progress! The day we went on holiday I couldn’t walk without at least one crutch, I’m now pretty much walking without any support (on my feet for long durations and I have to use a walking stick as it gets tired!) Yesterday we missed the last bus back to our hotel up a steep steep incline and we hadn’t prepared for it however I managed to walk it without any help (very very slowly but we got there!) I’ve still got some way to go... the swelling comes and goes as does some pain and I’ve lost a lot of muscle there. But every day it gets that little bit better! I do know I wouldn’t have come this far without @strongman_mcgoo telling me to rest and stopping me from straight leg deadlifting in my splint and stopping me doing a bomb in the pool or joining in the inflatable games here. He’s been amazing and I know I’d be in even worse pain without him!
