The full expression of this pose is not a part of my practice as yet, so I modified with a strap. Stretches for the hips are juicy and oh so necessary in this world that is biased to flexion. However rushing into poses before you are ready can result in injury. So I’m taking my time and enjoying the process. I almost didn’t post this. Sometimes i feel like sharing my journey in this way is viewed as trite, narcissistic or gets pushed under scrutiny. I come from a background of teaching yoga where everyone preaches non-judgement, yet I’ve found that no matter WHO you are or what profession you’re in, judging eyes will follow you because most people react from a space of fear, self limitation or a need to validate why ‘the way they do {or don’t do} life’ is the right way, when in the end the only right way to live is the WAY that’s authentic to you & makes you fulfilled and happy. . . I had a huge aha moment in my work out today, related to ego. My ego wanted to do the moves full out, move at the same pace as my teacher & the others. It was trying to keep up and was feeling defeated & frustrated move after move. I slowed down, decided to be okay with doing things differently, i engaged each muscle more, focused & moved at my pace in a way that supported me better, and though it looked different than what others were doing, i felt in control, like i was accomplishing what i wanted, and i started ENJOYING each second more and more. . . At the end i took this picture which reflects a woman who’s now fairly ‘fit’, YET i still also see the ME who was nearly 30lbs more, struggling to love herself, and spent her evenings self sabotaging through emotional drinking & eating. I see this FIT ME now who’s insides, whose mind, now matches her outsides, but i still recognize that i struggle with my ego-mind, my former demons & my self sabotaging tendencies. . . So i share this all {and all my posts like this} not to be like ‘hey look at me🙋🏼‍♀️💃🏼🏋️‍♀️’, i share it because I’m learning every single day how to become a better version of me, how to bounce back after a set back, to be okay celebrating my victories & deserving of them, and because sharing my journey in this way has kept me accountable to my health & fitness for the past 5 years. So here i am today, feeling GOOD about the person I’m still working to become & the women I’ve fought to be. She was and IS a tough cookie & a tough project, but also one of the most rewarding projects I’ve ever invested in 💫.

Today is a day that I like to celebrate results and healthy changes in my friends, teammates, and customers. They are all working hard to be HEALTHY! Check that- be healthy, not skinny or a certain weight, but healthy and full of life! Meet Danielle! She is a coach on our team who has had her fair share of struggles. She started with us quite a while ago but then fell off, which by the way happens to so many of us and is totally ok! The important thing is that you have a serious talk with yourself and jump back in! Well she’s back! She is getting married in a few days and wants to FEEL her best! I’d say she’s succeeded! These are her results from April 2018 to Sept 2018! It’s about a 15 pound difference and looks like much more than that! We have seen her fire come back, her confidence and love for life has come back! This is a woman on a mission and we are thankful to be a part of it! She had used our nutrition plans that focus on portion control, our superfood shake, and our seriously amazing at home (or portable) workouts. Digging these new sunglasses from @oakley for running. Clearly they invoke a little sass and confidence pre-run 😂 . A little less than 3 weeks until the Vegas half! I’ve been getting a lot thrown my way the past week or two that could easily have derailed my training. My mom is facing another cancer diagnosis and I’ve been plagued with injuries and stress migraines. I’ve certainly had to make plenty of adjustments to my runs and race goals, but that’s ok. Not every race will be a PR. Not every training cycle will be perfect. But I will finish. And I will finish strong. And I will appreciate it and enjoy every moment of this race 😉

If you had to pick one word to describe yourself, what would it be? Two years ago, I spoke on a panel at a Global Women’s Leadership Summit in Washington D.C. and all attendees had a Polaroid picture taken and framed of themselves and had to write their word at the bottom of the picture. I used the word “resilient” to describe myself. Like everyone else, I’ve faced my fair share of opportunities as well as challenges throughout my life, but no matter what life may bring me, I try to be resilient, learn from each and every experience, grow and keep on going. Here are some of challenges I’ve faced, many of which I also consider to be wonderful and enriching opportunities, based on decisions I’ve made or what life has brought me - growing up in the Midwest as a minority female, being first generation born Indian-American, being in an interfaith and interracial marriage and having mixed race kids, being just under five feet tall, having allergy-induced asthma, supporting members in my family through illnesses, surgeries and recoveries, walking away from my corporate career and becoming an entrepreneur, building a company and brand and the list goes on and on.... However, I wouldn’t change a single thing about my life or the opportunities and challenges I’ve faced, because they’ve all shaped me into who I am today and who I’ll become tomorrow. I’m so grateful and thankful for my life, marriage to my husband, kids, extended family, friends, health, ethnicity, faith, career and experiences, exactly as they are and I’ll continue to be resilient no matter what, because that’s who I am! I have always loved running. • So when I sat on the floor, jobless, living at home, and feeling like I had lost it all...I ran. • It felt like the only time no one could tell me what bills I had to pay, or resume I had to fill out for a job I didn’t even know if I wanted, or person I had to face telling me I had let them down. . • I ran so hard. • I started writing. About life. About how Running was saving my life. Using quotes to express my goals. • So I know that girl on the left - in her first “running” insta post. • 2 1/2 years ago. . • And all it’s been since then is growth, tears, gratitude, and a whole lot of prayer. • So for those that ask how I grew this “thing” (not that I’m a big shot), - HEART. • I never planned this - it just happened. • & if I could face that girl on the left, I would tell her how much those moments of weakness have led to moments of strength. I wore my winter coat and mittens for the first time this fall today. I also had ice coffee instead of a latte because I was too hot 🙊🙈

This was not a good run. This was not a good experience. This was my worst fear coming true. This was scheduled for 3 miles. I ran 2. Not because I was tired, struggling, or bored. I was followed during this run. I was being watched by unwanted eyes. I thankfully had someone looking out for me. A guy rode his bike behind me for most of my run at same pace, never leaving behind me. I stopped to look at a deer, and he was so close he almost ran into me. I didn’t think anything of it, until I stopped to tie my shoe. A fellow runner waved me down asking if that guy was with me, like a friend or spouse. I said no, but I saw him almost hit me. He then explained that he was so close to me for the entire time, like he was with me. And when I stopped that I threw him off. I cringed. He begged for me to take my headphones out and just be careful. I couldn’t thank him enough. He even said with everything that’s happening to women runners, I just want you to be careful. I immediately ran until I couldn’t breathe. I then called Zach and burst into tears. I couldn’t believe it. Nothing happened to me, but it could of. It could of been bad. Being followed is haunting. I don’t want to be fearful, but I am. This is why I run in a gym. This is why I don’t run when it’s dark. This is why I’m going to kick some ass if I ever feel this way again. Tempo Tuesday and another big confidence building workout, so much so, that I actually started crying in the middle of the workout because I couldn’t believe how well it was going (thanks taper brain 😂). Usually in taper my head gets a mess and starts playing games with me. Workouts that are usually easy feel hard and I over everything (See my Cleveland Marathon experience from May). But not this time around. DETROIT HALF // Race recap: I am still riding out Sundays race high and still trying to figure out a way to put the whole race into a recap here. So here goes...🏃🏻‍♀️ Leading up to race day I had a good taper. Some days felt good, other days felt so-so... as a taper usually feels. By Friday, though, my legs were feeling ready and I had to consciously slow the pace down. Saturday I went for a shakeout run then to the Expo to pick up my packet. I felt an odd sense of calm all day, which was totally opposite how I felt before any other race Ive done. I walked around the Expo a bit then headed back to relax the rest of the day. I had a hard time going to bed that night because I was so excited to be racing in my favorite city in the morning. Another feeling totally opposite any other race. I woke up race morning and immediately got ready and headed downtown with a bagel and coffee in hand. I stayed in the Cobo Center until just before I needed to be in my corral since it was warm inside and there was access to regular bathrooms without a line. I finally headed into my corral and within 10 minutes the race was off. Since I was in corral B, I started with corral A so it was a pretty quick start to the race for me. From the moment I set off, I felt like I got in a comfortable pace. I assumed at first I was going a little slower than goal pace since I was weaving around people a bit and still felt like I was getting warmed up. When I looked at my watch and saw that I was running sub-8 minute miles I tried to get my self to slow down knowing a big climb with the bridge was coming. Even when I tried to slow my pace, I still was steadying my pace in the 7:40s. As I reached the Ambassador Bridge I stayed calm knowing it can be a tough part of the race. But as I made it to the top I just wanted to scream at the top of my lungs how awesome of a race I felt like I was having. I worried that I was going to blow up halfway through the race running the pace I was running at, but I also wanted to see how long I could hold it since I still felt like I was keeping a steady pace. As I ran through Canada I felt like I was running through one big block party 🎉 Continued below 👇🏻

Well Day 16/80 for the 3rd time this year! is in and done 👊🏻👊🏻 and that’s something “ I” can 📝 write home about!!! I am feeling so gosh darn accomplished! . Before I used to religiously attend a 930 class every Thursday morning and I absolutely loved it!! But always felt like it was just never enough ~ for me~ because I like to move my body and radiate these 💛feel good emotions💛 that come along with, almost every single day! . When you find something you just really really REALLY LOVE! You put that $hit on repeat and spread the word ✌️✌️❤️ ~ because why wouldn’t I want to share what’s in my little tool kit of happiness 😊😊 . What keeps drawing me back to my 12 week ❤️ love ~ truthfully is how I feel on the inside when everything comes together. . LESS BLOATED! MORE ENERGY! and I FOCUS A TON MORE ON CLEAN EATING !! (Think veggie heavy and a plan of action to make it happen) . I NEED ALL of the above. I NEED ALL the guidance and assistance ~ and I am happy to admit that - as a busy mama 🐻 to two busy boys🐻🐻 ~ iam too tired to think, I just want to act upon and do 👊🏻👊🏻 . 12 weeks takes us STRONG NOW ~ and laser focused until the next BIG LAUNCH (like this one was last Jan) come the new year! ~~ BUT THAT ONE it’s top secret for now😉😁 .
