A short but much needed break. A chance to see parts of HK I’ve missed. Only more motivation to keep at it. . . . . . #WHPlookup

Dimitravas death mansion, Lithuania. No jokes about this object, unfortunately. Only that I nearly fell over few times while trying to get in and explore the area (wearing heels). Brilliant. Another unplanned adventure. The ruins of this building hide extremely dark history. In 1937-1940 the mansion has been turned into a forced labor camp, which housed criminal and political prisoners. Every day they were forced to collect rocks and stones from the nearby areas, bring them to the particular spot and chop them into square pieces, so they could be used for roadworks. In 1941-1944 during Nazi occupation, the place gained even more dramatic purpose. It was turned into a concentration camp. 3km from the building, in the woods, Nazis were shooting people (mainly Jews) and throwing the bodies into one massive grave. According to historical sources, up to 2000 people have been murdered there during WW2. At the moment the place is abandoned and left as a memorial for the victims of this terrible regime. We found candles, flowers, little Russian flags and notes (also in Russian), saying In memory of the victims. The forest around the area is still hiding massive amounts of explosive remains. The locals share stories of how this place is still killing people, even after the war. The field of one local farmer once got on fire and soon after - literally exploded, because there were so many bombs and grenades in the soil. Another story is even more heartbreaking, about two boys (12 and 14 years old) who found a bomb in the woods and tried to investigate what it is. The bomb exploded and both boys have been killed. Their parents themselves shared memories of how they have wrapped their sons body parts into the bedsheets. #militarytourism #urbex #urbanexploration #darktourism #abandoned #prison #military #historical #holocaust #заброшенное #urbexlithuania #urbexworld #urbanart #ruins #urbexpeople #lostplaces #urbandecay #lithuaniangirl #forgotten #abandonedplaces #adventure #urbanexplorer #sunset #urbanphotography #lifestyle #travel #roadtrip #урбан #прогулка

IX Fort of Kaunas. Did we get lost in its underground tunnels? Yes we did. But I will expand this story later. The fort was built by Russians just before the WW1. In 1915 it was taken over by Germans and used as a city prison a decade after, mostly for criminal and political (communist) inmates. During the WW2 and Soviet occupation, the fort was used by NKVD to house political prisoners before transfer to Gulag forced labor camps. In 1941 the fort was taken over by Nazi army and served as a place for mass murder (political prisoners and Jews). Approximately 50,000 people have been killed in IX Fort during the WW2. Today this place is turned into a museum, covering the history of the most brutal times in Lithuania. It is by no means one of the most haunted and creepy places in my home country. You can physically feel the heavy aura in the air. Apart from all the interesting expositions, we found a door with a sign saying that such and such number of inmates have escaped through those doors. For some reason they were unlocked and we also escaped to the tunnels. Soon after, we understood that we were not supposed to be there, as there were no signs or expositions anymore. Only long tunnels, which all looked the same. Apparently, only guided tours were happening there. Then we got lost, there was no reception and it was getting dark outside (well, Sherlock, it was late November). Suddenly we heard voices and a tour approached us from one of the tunnels. The guide looked even more confused than us. Where did you two come from? - she asked nervously. Through some doors, we are actually trying to find them now (pause) Well, then go back where you came from - she snapped and left us standing there with our eyebrows up. Well thank you for your help, b*tch🖕. Anyway, we managed to find the door and escape back to the fort. #militarytourism #urbex #urbanexploration #darktourism #abandoned #prison #military #historical #holocaust #заброшенное #urbexlithuania #urbexworld #urbanart #urbexpeople #lostplaces #urbandecay #lithuaniangirl #forgotten #underground #adventure #urbanexplorer #explore #active #lifestyle #travel #roadtrip #урбан #прогулка

Tank IS-2 (Iosif Stalin 2). This Soviet beast weights 46 tonnes and is equipped with 122 mm gun. According to local stories, it came over from Latvia during WW2, in 1944. However, the journey didnt end that well. The tank accidentally drove onto the mine and exploded, all crew members have died. Even though the bottom of it has been fixed in order to expose this object to public as a monument, you can still notice that its still heavily deformed.

The moment, when I fell in love with Dvina. Plokštinė Missile Base is an underground system, composed of 2-level bunker connected with 4 silos. It was built during the Cold War period, near lake Plateliai, Lithuania. This particular Dvina is the first ever underground missile base built by Soviet Union (and not the last one). The 4 silos housed R-12 ballistic missiles with thermonuclear warheads. One R-12 was much more powerful than the one dropped on Hiroshima during the WW2 (2.3 megaton vs. 13-16 kiloton). Today this place is partly reconstructed and turned into a Cold War museum (thanks God, I cant cope with Lithuanians constantly trying to eliminate this dark but also interesting page of the history, so fair play to them this time). #militarytourism #urbex #urbanexploration #darktourism #abandoned #military #historical #nuclear #заброшенное #urbexlithuania #urbexworld #urbanart #urbexpeople #lostplaces #urbandecay #lithuaniangirl #underground #adventure #urbanexplorer #abandonedplaces #explore #gasmask #coldwar #active #lifestyle #travel #roadtrip #урбан #прогулка #поехали

Привет, товарищ Ленин... 😁 Last year I had a chance to explore a very interesting object - Skrunda-1. It is a military ghost town, built in Latvia, 1963. The purpose of this town was to accommodate Soviet officers and their families. The officers have been working in the nearby radar station, which covered the Western Europe in order to detect any incoming bombs or nuclear missiles. The area of the town is large enough and contains a few rows of 5-storey apartment blocks, shop, gym, hospital, preschool, clubs for soldiers and officers, theater and cinema rooms, sauna, prison, towns headquarters, garages, massive military and storage facilities. The place is abandoned, but in order to get through the gate, you have to pay an entrance fee (so small, cant even remember how much). There you also get a map and can explore the town all day without supervision. #militarytourism #urbex #urbanexploration #darktourism #abandoned #ghosttown #заброшенное #urbexlatvia #urbexworld #urbanart #urbexpeople #lostplaces #urbandecay #lithuaniangirl #forgotten #adventure #urbanexplorer #couplegoals #lenin #ruins #explore #outdoors #active #lifestyle #travel #roadtrip #урбан #район #прогулка #поехали

Ive posted a picture from the same location before, but I didnt have enough time to write about it and give you tips on how to find it. This technical war museum is located in the northwest of Daugavpils city, in the town Svente, Latvia. We couldnt find this museum on GPS, so we searched all town and it happened to be located next to the big white mansion (towns hotel), in the middle of a housing estate (if you are approaching this town from another town Arone direction, keep right and enter Svente town on its R side). The entry was cheap (cant even remember, €2pp or something). The large garage was literally stuffed with tanks, military combat and transport vehicles (such as Soviet BTR, Gaz-67, Nazi Kettenkrad SdKfz-2 etc.) and all types of artillery. The premises were being monitored, so we couldnt get inside any of the tanks or vehicles (even though it was tempting). I am extremely impressed with Latvian Soviet and post-Soviet military heritage in general. It seems that every single piece of this country is hiding massive amounts of bunkers, ghost towns, military bases and loads of war equipment. Some of their locations you can easily find on the internet, however most of them are still closed or even kept as secret. At the moment Im doing a project on Latvian Military Heritage, where my mission is to find out as much information as possible and learn about every single object I can find. Later on I will organize different expedition routes, based on the map I am creating at the moment. So every trip will be an unforgettable adventure. If you know any interesting military-based places in Latvia, please leave a comment or contact me via DM. I will appreciate it.

Lyduvėnai Railway Bridge is the tallest and longest bridge in Lithuania, with 42m in height and 599m in length. In 1916 during German occupation, soldiers built first construction which was recognized as one of the largest wooden bridges in Europe. In 1918 Germans upgraded their construction to steel and also placed a statue of Otto von Bismarck at the top. This object was called technological masterpiece at the time. During the WW2 (1944), the bridge was bombed and destroyed by Nazi army following their retreat. Later during the Soviet occupation in 1951, the bridge was rebuild by their armys engineering division. The object has been strictly secured and monitored by the Lithuanian government until 2017, since the railway transport was (and still is) too intense for people to access it safely. However, there are safe tours being organized now during the breaks between passing trains.
