👍DO THIS, NOT THAT👎 . Dips Edition. Dips can be a great pushing exercise to work the chest, shoulders, and arms. It’s easy to modify to make easier or more difficult depending on your level of fitness. No matter the variation, however, there are common mistakes we see. . . Let’s begin with the head. Maintain a neutral position with the neck. Direct your gaze out in front of you. Imagine a string is attached to the top of your head and pulling you up tall. When you dip down you will dip slightly forward as well. . . Do not allow the shoulders to shrug up toward your ears. Focus on keeping them down and on rotating the shoulder blades while pressing. Keep an eye on those winging scapula! Have a friend take a video of you from the side so you can analyze yourself! . . Keep your core engaged during the exercise. Ideally you will have a straight line from the head to the feet (or knees if your knees are bent). Be sure the feet and/or knees are pinned together the entire time. . . Apply the outward rotation with the hands. If you are on the rings you will actually see them move. If on a dip station you will apply the motion but the hands will not actually move. Now, if you’re new to training or if you’re mobility isn’t too great they can be quite hard to get the hang of and execute with good form! Also, a weight bar isn’t essential.. they can be done with just bodyweight and still burn like a b**ch!! 😆 . Walking Lunges are great for recruiting muscle in the Glutes and Quads 🍑💪🏼😁 . 💥Stronger Tip 💥 - Keep your feet around hip width the whole time! - Take a long step forward, HEEL down first.. - Bend your back knee DOWN towards the floor (back toes POINT forward!) - PUSH your front heel into the floor and DRIVE your front knee OUTWARD (this will really activate your front Glute!) - MAKE SURE your front knee DOES NOT go past your front ankle/toes!! (This will put loads of stress on the knee and cause injury over time!) - Keep your Abs ON the whole time! - Keep your chest up, shoulders back (a slight tilt forward is fine but not too much!) . 🙃Walking lunges are up there with an exercise I hate/love. . 🤷‍♂️So when @brad.eatliftlose has put 11 each leg in my programme you can tell Im going to be happy. . 💪This was from last week and you can see Im not the most stable/balanced during this set. Probably means I should drop the weight down a little when I come to redo them on this week. . 🤘Thats one of the benefits of recording what you do - the 3rd person view! . 🎥When clients train without me during their own sessions, Ill get them to send me videos of their exercise. So again, they and I, can see what/how theyre doing it. . 👍Its okay to review it and change things up if need be. Just like Ill be lowering the weight a little this week so I can get these lunges down better.
