December is fast approaching which means more nights out, more temptation, more alcohol and more chocolate! I like to usually add at least one green veggie also 🥗 Some of my go to veggies are green beans, cucumbers, snap peas, bell peppers, zucchini, carrots & celery for meal prep _ 2) Add protein - I usually pick lean meats like chicken and ground turkey most often. Also really like eggs/egg whites. Will have lean beef on occasion + some seafood options (salmon or shrimp 🍤) My protein is usually around 25 to 50% of my plate depending on the meal!  _ 3) Add a starchy carb - This is typically 25% of my plate and my go tos for meal prep are usually brown rice or sweet potatoes. I love taking my dog Happy on hikes, but I’m finding I still think about hikes as if my body was 365lbs. I think they are going to be hard, I tend to pick shorter trails because I’m scared of getting fatigued and struggling to finish. That hasn’t happened in forever. Tummy tea, Shakeology, & Herbal life. As I prefer to get all my macro & micro nutrients from all the food groups, a protein bar here & there (only because sometimes I dont eat enough protein), take my Ultra Mega women multivitamin & bounty fish oil & blood pressure pill,and mainly water. All that other stuff is not for me, its just a pharmaceutical company making money off people. Plus a person with a heart condition or medical issues, has to be very careful about what their consuming. #liveyourblisschallenge Wednesday Weigh-In... I’m celebrating a bittersweet weight loss anniversary and here are my confessions of weight loss maintenance: 9 years ago I began the lifestyle changes that would ultimately result in completing a 💯 lb weight loss over 2 years. I did it all by running in place in my kitchen 20 min a day, doing some planks & crunches and cutting my oversized food portions in 1/2. After losing the weight I easily maintained it for 4 years , continuing to exercise and using proper portion sizes. And then I slipped. In my 5th year of maintenance I slowly started overeating again. And then I had a knee injury which took me out of working out. The injury also led to learning I had oddly severe degenerative joint issues and most of what I do for fitness was going to cause big problems. And then my mom died and I hit a deep depression. So, over a 3 year period, I have been undoing all the hard work I had done. I’ve regained 10-15lbs but I’m up two sizes. I put in effort to workout maybe once or twice a week. I overeat but don’t allow myself to binge eat. I keep telling myself I’m going to stop now and get back on track... I keep saying it... I keep putting 3-4 workouts into my planner every week... Some days I even put on my workout clothes but never get around to that scheduled workout... and this has been my pattern for the past 3 years. 🤦‍♀️ The thing that got me into action 9 years ago was hitting bottom. What’s the trick for doing it without having to hit bottom again?!?!? 🤷‍♀️ BTW, this mini-tramp is what PT prescribed last spring. It is my new form of running! I can’t believe it, I have maintained my 100 pound weight loss for a month now!!!! That may not seem like much, but for me it’s huge. My biggest fear has been maintenance and getting comfortable and back sliding into old habits. My brother-in-law says that my family has “Irish Alzheimer’s” - we remember everything that anyone did who wronged us. . “Sally didn’t invite me to her birthday party in 3rd grade? I hate that B!” . 😐 . 😝 . But does forgiveness really mean that we need to forget? I don’t think so. . I think it means that we just have to let go of needing to punish that person for what they did wrong - of holding on to being victimized by their actions long after they’re done. . I don’t think that forgiveness is about forgetting - but it is about realizing that maybe we can change. . Maybe we can learn from our mistakes. . Maybe we can evolve & grow. . Maybe Sally not inviting me to her birthday party was a mistake! Or maybe there was something else going on that I don’t have visibility into. Maybe *I* had hurt Sally & she needed to punish *me*. 😯 . We really don’t know. . So to hold on to negative emotions when they’re not serving us doesn’t punish the other person. . Trying to make some gainzzzz!!! I cannot believe how much stronger I was when I was heavier. However I stopped working out while I focused on food and my diet for the duration of my weightloss. I have mixed feelings about this decision. On one hand I bettered my relationship with food on the other I am very weak and lost a lot of muscle, which will take a long time to build up. But when I worked out before I used it as an excuse to eat more. “I was at the gym for 2 hours today, so that means I can have all the McDonalds I want” or “I’m starving from the gym, I gotta eat ASAP, why have 1 sandwich when I should have 2, I worked out!” I feel like I made the right choice for myself, but not the best choice in general. #mondaymotivation A few weeks ago, I ran my first 5K. Like... *I* ran a 5K. Two years ago, that seemed like one of the most undesirable things imaginable. And then what if I became one of those annoying people that ran 5Ks and humble-braggily posted about it on the ‘gram? (😳🙊 Whoops! 😂) Anyway, my point is that there may be something you don’t do because you think you can’t or don’t know where to start... Just take a small step toward it. Small changes add up to help you reach big goals!

Even getting on and off the boat was difficult and embarrassing. #Desklunch realness. It ain’t pretty. It ain’t Instagram-worthy. It definitely ain’t #foodprepgoals. But it was easy and tasty and the kind of habit I can maintain. I REALLY don’t want to go back to my old unhealthy lifestyle of not having a plan for lunch and then just eating whatever I was in the mood for. I’m proud of how far I’ve come! It started with little changes like this!

As you can see, the difference in the way I look after losing over 100 pounds is fairly… dramatic. People that haven’t seen me in a while are always taken aback or just plain don’t recognize me! But the most dramatic difference in me isn’t actually the way I look, it’s in my lifestyle. I get asked a lot, “What diet are you on?” And that low-key triggers me because I REFUSE to call what I’m doing “dieting.” I’ve dieted a handful of times in my life and lost weight because losing weight was the goal. And when I reached my goal, I got off the diet and went back to my old eating habits and, unsurprisingly, the weight I lost came back (usually plus some). So, no. I’m not on a “diet.” I don’t follow Keto or Paleo or Whole 30. Not because I think they’re bad or wrong, but I was looking for lifelong, sustainable changes. Small ones. Just making better choices, one by one. And what’s crazy to me is that my life looks TOTALLY different from my life before April 2017. >>>Me then: had NO CLUE how many calories I was eating >>>Me now: meticulously tracks everything I eat and is always conscious of my calorie intake vs. my calorie goals >>>Me then: would drive around a parking lot forever looking for the absolute closest spot imaginable to avoid having to do too much walking >>>Me now: holy crap I ran a 5K a few weeks back and felt like a FRIGGIN SUPERHERO afterward So how did I do it? I made TINY changes, one at a time. I said “not today” to a donut at the office one day. I parked at the back of the parking lot. I chose a meal off the drive through menu based on calories. I switched to unsweet tea. Little bitty conscious choices, made one by one over time added up to over 100 pounds lost and a MUCH healthier life.
